4 Meet Your Distinguished Faculty Daniel N. Abrahamson founded the Drug Policy Alliance s Office of Legal Affairs in He is an active litigator in state and federal courts across the country, including the United States Supreme Court, and is co-author of several state and local legislative initiatives, including California s highly successful treatment-instead-of-incarceration law, Proposition 36. He is the 2001 recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse Award in recognition of his efforts to expand access to drug treatment while reducing the rate and length of incarceration for drug law offenders. Mr. Abrahamson currently serves as an adjunct professor of law at the University of California Berkeley, where he teaches an upper-level seminar on the social and legal implications of the war on drugs. Jeffrey V. Dunn practices in the Municipal and Environmental Resources Practice Groups of his firm and has extensive experience as legal counsel to cities, towns and other public agencies in complex litigation matters. He has represented nearly 200 California cities and towns, including the City of Santa Maria, the County of Los Angeles, the County of Riverside, the Riverside County Transportation Commission, the City of Corona and the County of Orange. Christopher M. Glew is an experienced criminal defense and family law attorney specializing in marijuana-related offenses. He represents clients at both the federal and state levels. He is dedicated to the reform of marijuana laws through organizations such as the Marijuana Policy Project, NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), and Americans for Safe Access. Asha Greenberg manages the Citywide Nuisance Abatement Program. Ms. Greenberg spearheads the Los Angeles City Attorney s enforcement against marijuana dispensaries and has secured two Superior Court rulings holding that sales of marijuana are not allowed under the CUA or the MMPA. Additionally, under her direction, the City Attorney has obtained the evictions of several dispensaries. Bruce M. Margolin has been defending the rights of his clients as well as working to reform those laws that he believes to be unjust for 40 years. To that end, he was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the ACLU. In 1999, he was selected as the Century City Bar Association s Criminal Defense Attorney of the Year. He has served as the co-chair of the Ethics Committee for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and has been the Director of the Los Angeles chapter of NORML for over 30 years. In addition, he also served as an advisor on and helped author the California Proposition 215 Medical Marijuana Initiative. Harry Nelson co-founded his law firm in His practice focuses on counseling healthcare providers and facility owners in all facets of business and healthcare law, from administrative actions to regulatory compliance to business transactions and litigation. He also counsels clients on a wide range of relevant healthcare regulatory requirements applicable to their specialties or facilities. He is a sought-after speaker on healthcare regulatory compliance topics and has been recognized for his experience counseling healthcare providers in crisis. Robert A. Raich specializes in medical cannabis law, business law, political law and lobbying. He has spoken across the United States and internationally on the regulation of medical cannabis. He was the attorney in both of the U.S. Supreme Court cases ever to consider medical cannabis issues, United States v. Oakland Cannabis Buyers Cooperative, 532 U.S. 483 (2001), and Gonzales v. Raich, 545 U.S. 1 (2005). Mr. Raich was a member of the California Attorney General s Medical Marijuana Task Force (Chair, Caregiver Issues Subcommittee), and he has taught classes on medical cannabis to cadets at the Oakland Police Department s Police Academy. He has appeared before dozens of tribunals throughout the country, lobbying with respect to medical cannabis legislation and litigating medical cannabis cases. Lisa Romines has been an active member for over 10 years of The Other Bar, a network of legal personnel, lawyers and judges throughout California that is dedicated to assisting others within the profession suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems. The program is open to all California lawyers, judges and law students. She is also affiliated with International Lawyers in Alcoholics Anonymous.
