3 At CICH we do not provide: post graduate professional specific degrees training for mid level or grass roots workers which in our view should be culture/language specific A curriculum led course We do encourage active learning & critical thinking with people who have worked with and for PWD in low income countries What is the role of a university of the North

6 Current disability research sites are in: South India, Sri Lanka Kenya Uganda Zimbabwe Bangladesh Current research funding includes: DFID, Nuffield, NORAD, UN Disability Fund, CP Charitable Trust, UNESCO Vision of the Disability Group is to undertake research which promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in all mainstream services and demonstrates effective ways of doing this

12 Nature of the teaching programme The CDS programme is designed to enable those responsible for policy, planning and implementation of CDS programmes to have access to the information and skills to critically evaluate options. The course is lead by students learning not by curriculum content The programme includes MSc, Diploma, Certificate and short course routes through Core Modules and Optional modules Optional modules are taken with other students from MCH and/or from Trop Ed Europe

15 This comprises 33% of the degree ( as do all MSC degrees at UCL) and enables a student to work closely with a tutor in an area of interest in depth Some students undertake fieldwork some desk studies Students develop their confidence in data collection (in the field or internet), discussion, analysis, critical thinking and careful drafting. These skills are central to the degree In the last 4 years 12 students have published their projects in peer reviewed journals Student MSc Project
