2 Accuplacer CPT Mathematics Test There are three Accuplacer CPT Math tests: Arithmetic, Elementar Algebra, and College Level Math. All students will take two of these tests, starting with the Elementar Algebra test. If the score on the Elementar Algebra test is less than 7, the student has placed into remedial math and will take the Arithmetic test to help further determine placement into MAT or below. If the score on the Elementar Algebra score is at least 7, the student has placed into collegelevel math, and will take the College Level Math test to further determine placement into MAT or higher. The following describes the topics covered on each of the three math eams. Arithmetic Test (AR) The Arithmetic test measures students abilit to perform basic operations and to solve problems that involve fundamental arithmetic concepts. Students are administered 7 questions on this test, which covers three content areas:. Whole Numbers and Fractions a. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division b. recognizing equivalent fractions and mied numbers c. estimating. Decimals and Percents a. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with decimals b. recognition of decimals, fraction and percent equivalencies c. percent problems and estimating problems. Applications a. rate, percent, and measurement problems b. simple geometr problems. c. distribution of a quantit into its fractional parts. Elementar Algebra Test (EA) The Elementar Algebra test measures student s abilit to perform basic algebraic operations and to solve problems that involve elementar algebraic concepts. Students are administered questions on this test, which covers three content areas:. Integers and Rationals a. computations with integers and negative rationals b. the use of absolute values c. ordering

3 . Algebraic Epressions a. evaluations of simple formulas and epressions b. adding, subtracting, multipling and dividing monomials and polnomials c. evaluation of positive rational roots and eponents d. simplifing algebraic epressions e. factoring. Equations, Inequalities, and Word Problems a. solving linear equations and inequalitites b. solving quadratic equations b factoring c. solve verbal problems presented in an algebraic contet, including geometric reasoning and graphing d. translation of written phrases into algebraic epressions. College Level Math (CLM) The College Level Mathematics tests measures students abilit to solve problems that involve college-level mathematics concepts. Students are administered questions on this test, which covers si content areas:. Algebraic Operations a. simplification of rational algebraic epressions b. factoring and epanding polnomials c. manipulating roots and eponents. Solutions of Equations and Inequalities a. solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities b. sstems of equations c. other algebraic equations.
