5 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) This program is a gateway to the program at Torrance High. We have the largest selection of classes in the district at the middle school level for PLTW including: Computer Programming (including app designing) Automation/Robotics & Design/Modeling Shop, Flight in Space & Green Architecture Magic of Electrons & Energy in the Environment

6 Summer Reading Students are required to choose from grade level and district approved reading lists. Hull will send the list to the elementary schools at the end of the school year. All summer reading lists are available on the Hull website. All students must complete the summer reading assignment based on their chosen books, which will be due in Sept.

7 PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Focus on the expected behavior Positive reinforcement rather than focus on misbehavior. Explicitly defined behavioral expectations. Expectations are taught at the beginning of the year and posted throughout campus.

8 Enrichment Enrichment is Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays are Homeroom. Enrichment is between Period 4 and lunch (30 minutes). There are multiple activities and assistance that can be found for students during Enrichment. Enrichment session offerings are shared with students on Tuesdays in Homeroom. Enrichment sessions are posted weekly on the Hull website.

9 GATE & High Achieving Students-Opportunities Astrocamp-An astronomical experience in Big Bear Mountain CIMI (Catalina Island Marine Institute)-A marine biology experience on Catalina Island. TBD (3rd GATE camp opportunity) Monthly after school program-once a month run by GATE coordinators. LEGO Mindstorm, etc. programs for GATE and high achieving students at Hull Middle School. *High Achieving Students have a GPA of 3.75 and above

10 Robotics Club After school club for students interested in engineering and robot design. Students participate in the club to build, program, and test robots. Student do not have to be in PLTW classes to be a member of the club.

11 Math Team After school club where students are prepared for the Torrance Regional Math Competition All grade levels are eligible to tryout for the team

12 Student Council An opportunity for students to represent all grade levels at Hull. Students must meet GPA and citizenship requirements. Students must apply and campaign for the positions of President, Vice President, Activities Director, Secretary and Grade Level Representatives. Students who do not wish to have a board position are encouraged to join the Council. Responsibilities include: assemblies, spirit weeks, dances and fundraisers.

13 7th/8th Grade Activities Hull History Day: Led by Mrs. McCarthy and many other teachers, 7th and 8th grade students recreate a day during the Middle Ages on campus. Guilds include military, gypsies, archery, medical, food, drama, farming, catapults, royal court, jesters, ribbons, the Maypole and music. Students wear costumes, create a persona for the day and run all of the activity booths. ilead: 8th grade program where students are chosen based on GPA and potential. Field trips and other opportunities to participate in College and Career adventures. Students meet during Enrichment. CJSF: California Junior Scholarship Federation- Designed for 7th and 8th grades. For students with 3.5 GPA or higher. The students must complete five (5) service hours a semester.

14 Career Day Communities members from a variety of occupations are invited to speak to the students about the journey to their career. Students are encouraged to ask questions and partake in three sessions of their choosing. Careers presented include: Military members, Torrance Police Dept, Torrance Fire Dept., veterinarian, lawyers, special effects, UPS management, professional musicians, university coaches, comic book writer and owner, jeweler, etc. If you are interested in speaking in Career Day or know anyone who would be interesting for our students, please let us know.

15 Student of the Month Assemblies A monthly assembly for the entire school to encourage school spirit and to recognize students of the month and Hawksome Award winners. Student Council plans games in which students compete for their grade level. Incoming 6 th Grade class color: YELLOW. Class colors coincide with Torrance High School.
