7 NATURE Total area: km² - seventh largest in Europe Boundary with Sweden, Norway and Russia Mostly lowland; 70% covered with forest, 19% with lakes lakes, isles Europe s largest archipelago; south-western Turku and Ahvenanmaa (Åland) Arctic fells and wild areas in Lapland ( reindeer)

8 CLIMATE In summer time the temperature quite often rises to +20 Celsius and occasionally goes over to +30 in southern and eastern parts of Finland. In winter, temperatures of -20 Celsius are not uncommon in many areas. In southern Finland the sun does not set for about 73 days in summer, in winter the sun remains below the horizon for 51 days. Finland has four distinctive seasons, which are clearly reflected in the Finnish rhythm of life.

21 LAHTI Founded in 1905 Centre of the Lahti region (Päijät-Häme) Around inhabitants - seventh biggest 120 kilometers from Helsinki Famous winter sport centre; annual Lahti ski games

22 HOLLOLA Established in 1865 Situated on either side of lake Vesijärvi Has existed as an administrative area for over 800 years The medieval church is known for its two naves and wooden statues Messilä ski centre is very popular

24 MY LIFE IN FINLAND My home is a detached house in Hollola, which is about 10 km from Lahti I go to school in Tiirismaa High school My dearest hobby is playing the flute, which I have played for 8 years Friends are really important to me and I spend a lot of time with them

25 MY FAMILY My mother s name is Johanna and she is a international coordinator & social worker My dad s name is Ilkka and he works as an diploma engineer My twin sister Ella And a little sister whose name is Liina (13 years) We have also a black labrador dog called Iida Grandmother Heli

29 NEXT 9 MONTHS I am looking forward for the trekaway and other Rotary events with the other exchange students I want to see and experience as much as I can I want to learn more about Australia and Australians Improve my english

30 AFTER MY EXCHANGE YEAR I am going to continue my studies for another 2 years at Tiirismaa High school I am continuing my music studies After finishing high school I am probably going to apply to a university Not sure about what I m going to study yet...
