6 2 Hardware and Software Requirements The following hardware and software are required: Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server USB key size should be greater than the OS partition for any operation When a Non-PXE image is used to image, the IDE Flash size should be greater than Wisard Image size (for example, if a Wisard 512 MB image is converted to a Non-PXE Image, then the IDE flash size should be 1 GB to accommodate the boot agent) Windows XPe build 587 or later on the thin client Wyse Linux version 6.4 or later on the thin client Supported Devices The following devices are supported: Wyse thin clients running Windows XP embedded (XPe) operating system, including: G90, R90L, R90LE, V90, V90L, V90LE, X90L and X90Le. Wyse thin clients running Wyse Linux embedded operating system, including: R50L, R50LE, V50, V50L, V50LE and X50L. Wyse Viance Appliance
7 3 Overview - Quick Start Instructions The purpose of the Wyse USB Firmware Tool is to configure a USB key for thin client firmware copy or update functionality and to make the USB key bootable. For example, when a configured USB key is used to boot a thin client, it automatically copies a firmware image from the thin client or updates a firmware image to the thin client depending on the configuration. In addition, the tool allows a user to create duplicate USB keys (containing the original configuration) for multiple firmware copy and update use. This section contains an overview of the steps you must complete to configure a USB key (using the Wyse USB Firmware Tool). For detailed procedures, refer to "Using the USB Firmware Tool." To configure a USB key, you must: 1. Obtain and place the Wyse USB Firmware Tool v1.0_ga.exe file into the directory you want (for example C:\WyseFirmwareTool), extract all files from it into the directory, create a shortcut on the desktop for the Wyse USB Firmware Tool.exe, and then double-click the shortcut to open the Wyse USB Firmware Tool wizard. 2. Follow the wizard using the following guidelines: If you are configuring to Copy: Supported thin clients include those listed in "Supported Devices." Support for Non-PXE images - In the case of a copy configuration, the USB key is configured to support PXE as well as Non-PXE images. You can select as many of the contents options that you want (OS Image, BIOS, and CMOS). If you are configuring to Update: Supported thin clients include those listed in "Supported Devices." Support for Non-PXE images - In the case of an update configuration, the USB key is configured to support PXE as well as Non-PXE images. You can select the.rsp file of I2D image or.i2d file directly or the Merlin image during configuration. If the I2D image is selected, it will be converted to the Merlin format automatically and the converted files copied to the USB key. If you already have a Merlin image, it can be selected directly by selecting the.rsp of the Merlin image. Note: Merlin is a new image format that is available with WDM You can select as many of the contents options that you want (OS Image, BIOS, and CMOS). 3. To support the bootable USB key in all configuring cases (Copy, Update, and Replicate), you must configure the BIOS option for booting the thin client from the USB key before trying to use the key: For V90, V90L, V90LE, G90 thin clients Enter the BIOS by pressing the Delete key. Select the Advanced BIOS Features option, enter the password Fireport (this is case sensitive) and press the Return key. Set First Boot Device as [USB-ZIP]. Scroll down to Hard Disk Boot Priority and press the Enter key. Using the + or - key, change item 1 to read Bootable Add-in Cards. Save the BIOS settings and reboot. For RL, RLE and XL thin clients Enter the BIOS by pressing the Delete key. Select the Boot option, enter the password Fireport (this is case sensitive) and press the Return key. Select the USB KEY option and using the + key, move it to the 1. position. Save the BIOS settings and reboot.
8 4 Using the USB Firmware Tool To use the tool: 1. Obtain and place the Wyse USB Firmware Tool v1.0_ga.exe file into the directory you want (for example C:\WyseFirmwareTool).
