3 The OPTI-JACK Fiber Connector Module The OPTI-JACK Fiber Optic Connector Module is the next generation in fiber connectivity combining the look, feel and ease of use of the familiar RJ-style copper connector with the proven performance of ST/SC ferrule technology. Its patented FJ interface allows for higher density fiber installations than are possible with older ST and SC connectors, saving rack space and equipment expense. OPTI-JACK Fiber Optic Connectors in single-mode and multimode versions can be implemented in backbone, horizontal and work area cabling environments, providing exceptional versatility and true endto-end connectivity. This connector interface is defined by the TIA FOCIS-6 (Fiber Jack) intermateability specification and complies with all of the performance requirements specified in TIA-568-A and ISO/IEC 80. Key Features of the OPTI-JACK Fiber Optic Connector Module FEATURES Single-mode capability Mechanical strength and safety Acceptance proven by users RJ-45 form factor Terminable in field or factory BENEFITS Meets a key requirement of TIA-568-A. Provides flexibility of use in high-bandwidth, high data rate applications such as backbone cabling. No bare or loose fibers. Fibers are totally encased in ferrules to protect end users in fiber-to-the-desk environments and guard against inadvertent network outages. Builds upon two de facto standards proven ST/SC ferrule technology and the RJ-45 form factor. The preferred choice of end users, systems integrators, installers and standards bodies, as evidenced by successful implementations world-wide. Doubles the port density compared to ST/SC connectors. Maintains investment in cable management products. Mounts flush in patch panels, outlets and faceplates. Allows the flexibility to make moves, adds and changes in the network topology on-site, as needed. Uses commonly available tools. Reduces costs and simplifies inventory management compared with factory terminated cabling assemblies. FIBER CONNECTIVITY SOLUTIONS Connectors mount flush with faceplates, surface mount boxes and patch panels for a low profile, aesthetically pleasing installation. * ST is a trademark of Lucent Technologies Smaller size doubles the available port density compared to duplex SC or ST connectors. Fiber connector modules can be interchanged with copper connectors because they use the same RJ-45 form factor and modularity. For Technical Assistance, call: , Ext. 694 E3
