1 Insights wk 41 It may be fall, but because of this life does not have to look colorless! Together with Marc (buyer), I visited a Skimmia nursery last week. This breeder knows exactly how to grow a beautiful full bunch of Skimmia. He is also working to refresh and improve the current range so that your bouquet is full of color when using this product in this period and in the near future (Christmas). FLOWER of the week CELOSIA CRISTATA In the motley crew of cut flowers Celosia Cristata occupies in a special place. With its fiery colors and exuberant plume it makes an almost sensual creation of each bouquet. The stem can grow up to 1,5 meters long and the plumes can be up to 40 centimeters. The tropics is the place where the flamboyant apparition comes from. It has spread from (sub-) tropical Asia and Africa to many other tropical areas. Celosia Cristata is a symbol for boldness. If you want to wish somebody courage for something exciting, a bouquet full of Celosia s is very in place. Léandre van Rees, Account Manager Asia Holex Flower B.V. FORECAST I am the buyer of big headed, small headed (Sweetheart) and spray Roses. The big headed Roses have not been expensive the last few weeks, but also not too cheap. There is plenty of supply at the moment, and the quality is good! Supply and demand is reasonably in balance. Sweethearts are currently very cheap. This is a perfect product to offer to your customers! The value for money is excellent. There are currently plenty spray Roses. There is significant supply from Africa. In terms of color, orange is popular and relatively cheap! As you can see, there are many opportunities this week with these products. Take advantage of all this! Novelty! 7 wk 41Insights TRENDING PRODUCT KANGAROO PAWS YELLOW This product, with its soft buds that look a bit like kangaroo paws, is available in this period in a range of autumnal colors. The color that is most popular with our customers, is yellow. Kangaroo Paws Yellow is because of its warm yellow color and soft and distinct look perfectly for use in autumnal bouquets! Available lenghts cm by Fred Hoogenboom Availability April - October Kangaroo Paws Yellow GROWER IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Kwekerij Kuipers SKIMMIA This week we brought a visit to Nursery Kuipers, located in Boskoop (NL). The owners, Sietse and Ron Kuipers, are growing more than six hectares of different varieties of Skimmia. This is done in the greenhouse and on the field in shade halls. The brothers lead us around the farm and told us more about the cultivation of their products. The two-year during Skimmia cultivation is not one of the easiest, Sietse tells us. The first year the Skimmia plants stay in the greenhouse, to grow under the most optimal conditions without being disturbed by the weather. When the plants reach flowering (June - August), the flowers are removed. The plants are moved out to shade halls, where they will still grow for another year. Because the first flowers are removed, the plant will grow bigger and get fuller branches in the second year. The shade halls can be opened and closed when needed so that the plants again can grow under the most ideal conditions. In September the cutting starts and from about the beginning of September until the Christmas period Nursery Kuipers supplies the varieties Skimmia japonica Rubella, Rubinetta, Finchy, Fragrant Cloud, and Snow White. Both the plants in the greenhouse and on the field in the shade halls look wonderful. They have good quality and we are pleased to offer to you these products during this period.
