1 Joint Workshop interim Adriatic-Baltic Landbridge interim Joint Workshop, in Wildau Needs and instruments for spatial planning / regional development in the field of intermodal goods transport Dipl.-Ing. Bertram Meimbresse, University of Applied Sciences Wildau Chief Project Manager Logistics
2 General questions of the Workshop In which fields and how is the intermodal goods transport integrated in the spatial planning? Where do deficits occur regarding the consideration of intermodal goods transport in spatial planning? Which indicators can be used to reflect the specific role of intermodal goods transport in the regional / cross border development? Regarding future goods transport scenarios what kind of instruments are needed to integrate intermodal goods transport in the frame of spatial planning in a better way?
3 Why is Goods Transport Important? Development of goods transport in the EU-15 [billion ton-km] Goods transport volume increases faster than GDP Road Short Sea Shipping Rail Inland nav. Piplines

Which indicators can be used to reflect the specific role of intermodal goods transport in the regional / cross border development? Regarding future goods transport scenarios, what kind of instruments are needed to integrate intermodal goods transport in the frame of spatial planning in a better way?
19 Conclusions Intermodal goods transport is not systematically integrated in European spatial planning documents. European key documents reflect this important mode of transport only cursive. Emphasis is given more in concrete INTERREG projects. It is difficult to cover such a complex item which depends on market actors, business opportunities, costs and available infrastructure. But the issue needs more attention, otherwise the support and promotion of intermodal transport will not be part of a coherent European policy.
