The eruptions created healthy thermal springs and clear water lakes. The land thereabouts is very fertile thanks to the ash which, in the past, rained down upon it. The exhilarating air is quite invigorating to the languid city dweller. The combination of land, volcano and water is what makes up the Auvergne. You will understand why the Puys range is a UNESCO World Heritage candidate. Should you be tempted by a dose of vertigo, you could have a go at paragliding. Afterwards, off to the nearby amusement park of Vulcania where lunch awaits. This fun and instructive park will make you both love and fear the natural monsters that are volcanoes.
