This is why we are committed to placemaking creating strong communities where people enjoy a great quality of life. The space between the buildings is where people meet and talk. It s where you create community. So Berkeley invests in the landscaping and the public realm just as much as the integral design of every home. At Berkeley, the same degree of thought that goes inside our homes also goes into the open spaces, landscaping and public realm we create. We always look for ways to integrate new buildings and open spaces into the existing community, and vice versa. From 200 homes and a local school in Royal Wells Park, Tunbridge Wells to the regeneration scheme at Kidbrooke Village, South East London. By 1985, the Berkeley Group comprised autonomous operating companies with a combined market capitalisation of 67 million. These companies exist today and our five divisions Berkeley Homes, St George, St James, St Edward and St William are widely acknowledged as pioneers in their field, winning multiple awards. That is why our buyers can delight in exclusively designed homes within distinct surroundings, regardless of their budgets. Variety is a defining characteristic of our approach and we aim to meet a range of needs when we plan out new destinations. For us, it comes down to a vision of creating sustainable places where people aspire to live. Wherever possible, we want our customers to be a part of the design process. Just like them, we want their homes to last and have minimal impact on the environment. We also want to establish these homes within communities that are great places to live and where residents can enjoy a good quality of life. We do this by trying to make the right decisions along the way building almost exclusively on brownfield sites and cutting energy, waste and water across all our schemes. Delivering this vision is only possible with exceptional people. Which is why in every location we operate in, we encourage a highly skilled local workforce that values its contribution to society. Every step of the way Our Customer Care Team works to keep our customers fully informed and to be on hand so that everything progresses smoothly. Our homes are designed, however big or small, with our customers at the heart of our decision-making. Buying a home is one of the most important decisions any of us has to make. So we look after our customers at every step from the day they reserve through to the day they complete. We will even manage the whole moving process with them. On the day of completion, we are there to hand over the keys in person. Our Customer Care Team then keeps in contact to make sure everything in the new property meets individual expectations. Every one of our homes comes with a NHBC 10-year warranty the first two years of which are covered by Berkeley. What is more, we benchmark our performance, not just across the sector but against the top businesses in the country, so we can continually improve our standards of service. 7 12 PORTFOLIO : BERKELEY FOUNDATION PORTFOLIO : BERKELEY FOUNDATION 13 Making a real difference Left: Funds raised by our staff have helped support therapeutic play at Richard House Children s Hospice. What do the summit of Mount Everest, the Sahara desert and an annual Dragon Boat Race have in common? They are all examples of how our people are getting involved in raising money for the Berkeley Foundation. We launched the Berkeley Foundation in 2011 because we recognised that business had to play a more proactive, productive role in society after the global economic downturn. The Foundation is now a registered charity. Since then we have raised more than 6.7 million for our charitable partners with funding coming from the Berkeley Group, external donors, and the incredible fundraising efforts of our staff, along with their friends, families, supply chain and contractors. The Foundation would not be the organisation it is without our staff, who ran, cycled, climbed, baked, trekked and auctioned their way through more than 100 events last year alone. Overall, Berkeley staff have now raised more than 2 million towards the Foundation s work. Every penny raised for the Foundation is spent on charitable and worthy causes. The examples on this page are just some of the ways our staff are making a real difference. In 2014/15, we helped almost 2,500 people through our partnerships. Charmaine Young CBE Chief Executive, the Berkeley Foundation Yasar s story When I left school I started a sports degree at my local college but soon fell in with the wrong crowd. I started skipping lessons. I got in with some older guys thinking they d help me out. But it didn t turn out that way and I got involved in their gang. When my aunt passed away in 2009, it hit me that life is short. I found out about Street Elite through my college tutor who didn t give up on me. Berkeley s impact I finished the programme in June and was offered a placement with Berkeley. I love the work I do now. What we re doing out there is building for the future.
