I am glad to inform you that, having met the entry qualification for admission into various Non-Degree and Advanced Degree Programmes which are offered by different faculties and Directorate of Post Graduate Studies of this University, you have been selected to join the September intake programme in the 2015/2016 academic year. However, in order to secure a place in the programme you have to fulfil the following conditions:- 1. Provide Original and Copies of Birth Certificate, O level certificate and any other Academic certificates for verification on arrival at the university at the beginning of the academic year. 2. Pay the full amount of at least the first semester instalment of tuition and other university fees as shown in the attached schedule. 3. Your chance is kept only for TWO weeks from the date of opening the University. 4. Come with your Health Insurance Card or you shall be required to process it just after arriving at the university. Please note that the 2015/2016 academic year is scheduled to start on 21 st September, 2015 for Non Degree Programmes and 2 nd November, 2015 for Advanced Degree Programmes hence the orientation week for new students to start as follows: 1 st year None Degree Programmes (Certificates and Diplomas) - 21 st September, st year Advanced Degree Programmes (Post Graduate Diplomas and Masters) - 2 nd November, All first year students must attend the orientation programme. You are required to proceed with your registration upon reporting at the University, only then will you be considered a rightful student of the UoI. For its own convenience the management deserve the right not to offer any programme at a given semester. However such right will not have any negative implications on registered students. Furthermore, kindly note that the university cannot guarantee accommodation and it does not offer meals on campus, but will offer assistance to secure accommodation in town to those students who would require such assistance. 4 Dear Prospective Students: Congratulation for being admitted to study in University of Iringa. This University is a Christcentred institution owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). It is committed to research, teaching and to improving community services to people of Africa and the world at large. It is indeed a great pleasure for us to have the opportunity to serve you. Below, please find some useful information about registration, location of University of Iringa, how to get to the campus, accommodation, etc. Registration, orientation and beginning of classes: Registration and orientation will commence as follows: 1 st year None Degree Programmes (Certificates and Diplomas) - 21 st September, st year Advanced Degree Programmes (Post Graduate Diplomas and Masters) - 2 nd November, You are required to attend and participate fully in the orientation programme. No registration will be made two weeks after the beginning of the classes. How to get to the University Campus: To reach the campus from Iringa town, you may hire a tax at a charge between Tshs.7, 000/= and 8,000/=. You may also choose to use town buses which take the Semtema to Tumaini and will bring you up to the University campus gate. Some buses from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya and vice versa do not go through the main stand in Iringa town. Travellers who come to Iringa using these buses disembark at a place known as Ipogoro Stand, you may hire a taxi that will take you to the University campus at cost of about Tsh.10,000/= to 15,000/= depending on the negotiation. NB: At your arrival at Iringa town main stand and on campus you will be assisted and served by mentors/peer educators who will be wearing special identification cards with the University s logo. Please, do not accept any assistance from a person who will not be having an official identification from University of Iringa. Medical report: Admission into this university is conditional to a satisfactory medical report made by a recognized medical officer. During registration your medical report (for those who didn t return during application) will be reviewed and you will be asked to provide any missing information. Climate: The climate in Iringa is cold. We advise students to bring warm clothing especially during the months of April to August. However, trousers for women and indecent dressing are not allowed at all. These includes: tight, transparent clothes, skirts above the knees (mini-skirts), tops, singlets and similar blouses, pence, backless, blouses/shirts, slippers, K-K trousers/shorts, tracksuits, caps, pedals, trousers for girls and ladies, and any other undesirable dress. The prohibited dresses include the ones that identify a student with a political party and sports. Dressing code: Dear students you re required to appear smart. Dressing in an unbecoming, indecent and/or immoral manner means wearing short clothes covering the body above the knees; transparent clothes such as skin and skin tight; clothes with slits or opening that reach above knees; dressing that leaves the stomach waist; and or back open such as tops; and a kind of dressing whereby a trouser, skirt or short is placed hanging on below the waist and ninja type of dressing. Indecent dressing for men, means wearing: -

Meals: This represent cost for a student s meals based upon a budget of Tshs.6, 000/= per day (with 252 days in each academic year). Meals are available within and off campus at variable prices. Accommodation: All first year students are required to live on campus unless they are residing in Iringa with family members. But accommodation space on campus is limited. If you are interested staying on campus, arrive on the opening date. Accommodation is given prior to payment of accommodation fee. Off campus accommodation is available from local land lord. Students who attend orientation programme are assisted to acquire off campus residence. Bring the following items with you: beddings (blankets, bed sheet, and mosquito net) and any other necessary for your own use. Foreign Students: Before coming to Tanzania, the foreign students must make sure that they have all the necessary travelling documents: valid passport, visas and resident/study permits. These documents must be acquired from the relevant officials before leaving the country of origin to avoid any problems when entering Tanzania. NB: The foreign student is required to present copies of all the immigration documents to the Dean of Students upon reporting at the University. Students By Laws: All students are governed by The Students By - Laws made under section 38 of the constitution of University of Iringa formerly Tumaini University, Iringa University College (1997). The By Laws provide information on general students disciplinary proceedings and penalties. Upon registration, each students is given a copy of the By Laws and is expected to abide by the rules contained therein. We hope that the information given so far will be useful to you. NB: 1: Accommodations are limited; you are therefore advised to conduct Warden at before making any deposit for accommodations. NB: 2: Fee deposit to the University can be done in any of NBC or CRDB branches countrywide using the above account numbers; you need not to be at NBC or CRDB Iringa branches to do that.
