1 Retail Management Course in Introduction to Retailing Qualification code: This course has been designed to accommodate those employees who need to know the basic skills of retailing. The emphasis is on the practical application of the theory, and case studies form part of the course. This course is suitable for companies who want to prepare their employees for more involved training and to assist employees in their self development. Six months. Registration requirements A national senior certificate or equivalent qualification or relevant experience. Content Code CIRM014 CIRM024 Module Store location and customer focus Marketing and merchandising The emphasis of these topics are on the practical application of the theory and it is suitable for all types of retailers. Students will be assessed on the basis of two assignments per module. To qualify for the examination, students must obtain a minimum of 50% in at least one assignment per study module. Students performance will be evaluated by means of a formal three hour examination for each module. To pass a module, a student must obtain a minimum of 50% in the examination. On successful completion of all the modules, students will be awarded a certificate by the University at an official 24 credits Successful students can enrol for the Programme in Retail Management. A credit towards the Retail degree will be granted on completion of this course. Teaching method Distance education by means of study guides, tutorial letters and assignments. Companies enrolling groups of students, may consider group discussions. Registration, commencing date and fees The individual commencement and registration dates are as follows:

The cost per module is R750 (including study material, tuition and examination fees). The minimum amount payable on registration is R750 if only registered for one module. If registered for more than one module, then 50% of the total fees for the modules registered for must be paid at registration. Despite the fact that buying (or purchasing) has a greater impact on profits in retail organisations than in manufacturing concerns, most courses, programmes, diplomas and degrees in South Africa (and overseas) emphasise purchasing in manufacturing concerns. The object of this course is to equip employees in buying or related areas in the retail and wholesale sector with insight into and knowledge of the tasks of the retail buyer in a competitive, dynamic environment of retailing and to afford students the opportunity to apply their newly gained insight and knowledge in practice. The of the course is six months. The course comprises two modules. Students will be evaluated by means of two practical assignments and a two-hour formal examinations per module. A mark of 50% is required in both the modules in order to pass. Employees at all levels of the retail sector can benefit from this programme. This programme affords students the opportunity to gain retail knowledge and develop retailing skills. Much emphasis is placed on Retail Marketing. Twelve months. Students can register for a maximum of two (2) modules per semester. Registration requirements A national senior certificate or equivalent qualification. Admission may be considered based on a student s years of experience in the field.

To qualify for the examination, students must obtain a minimum of 50% in at least one assignment per study module. Students performance will be evaluated by means of a formal three-hour examination for each module to be written during January at official Unisa examination centres. To pass a module, a student must obtain a minimum of 50% in the examination. On successful completion of the four modules students will be awarded a certificate by the University at an official 48 credits Successful students can enrol for the Programme in Advanced Marketing Management. towards the Retail degree will be granted on completion of this programme.
