2 MAY Elders in the Media Dr Sarah Wednesdays in May 10:00am Library Dr. Sarah Hanson, PsyD, would like to look at how elders are portrayed in the media. There have been many positive attempts to overcome the demeaning set of labels and characteristics and Dr. Sarah is prepared to share them with us! Meditation Workshop Rob Shapera Saturdays in May 9:30am Meditation Room Rob Shapera, MA, one of our Interns here at Bayside Park, will teach you how to Hone Your Meditation Skills. To meditate means to examine. It means you are attending to what's going on within you - perhaps with your breath and senses, your internal thoughts and feelings, or the space in between these objects of attention. This investigation of mind becomes somewhat habitual the more you practice. Join Rob every Saturday morning. Brain Calisthenics Dallas Carey Saturday May 2, 16 & 30 2:00pm Library Dallas Carey, PsyD, is another Bayside Park Intern. One of her passions is exploring the BRAIN! Join Dallas every Saturday afternoon to discover ways we can strengthen our brains by performing mental exercises. The benefits of performing brain exercises regularly are both short-term (improved memory and concentration, sustained mental lucidity under stressful conditions ), and long-term (strengthened neural connections and formation of a brain reserve that helps in protecting us from brain diseases and disorders such as Alzheimer s). Foods For The Brain Dallas Carey Saturday May 9 & 23 2:00pm Café Dallas Carey, PsyD, a Bayside Park Intern, will introduce foods that are rich in the Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), and various vegetables/fruits that have brain boosting power. Come for the knowledge, stay for the snacks! A Celebration of Shabbat Resa Gordon Friday, May 1 4:45pm Library Join Resa as she shares the meaning of this celebration. The traditional Jewish position is that unbroken seventh-day Shabbat originated among the Jewish people, as their first and most sacred institution. Broadway Musicals: The Tim Johnson Monday, May 4 & 18 3:00pm 3rd Floor Movie Room Jewish Legacy Bayside Park's Community Life Director has a passion for Musical Theatre. Join Tim as he presents the first documentary film to explore the phenomenon that, over the fifty-year period of its development, the songs of the Broadway musical were created almost exclusively by Jewish Americans. These are the popular songs that our nation took to war, sang to their children at bedtime, and whistled while waiting for the bus taken in total they comprise the vast majority of what is now commonly referred to as The American Songbook. As to be expected...tim will sing!

Broadway: The Golden Age Tim Johnson Monday, May 25 & June 1 3:00pm 3rd Floor Movie Room Community Life Director Tim Johnson shares the Stars of Broadway, In their own words, and not a moment too soon - 'Broadway' tells the stories of our theatrical legends, how they came to New York, and how they created this legendary century in American theatre. This may be the last chance that these stories may be documented, for unlike film and television, live theatre exists only in the memories of those who were there watching, or more importantly, creating this magic. 'Broadway' tells the stories of these legendary performers, composers and writers while illustrating their tales with amazing, rare, archival performance footage and these legends' own home movies and photos.
