2 Current Practices CSI provide several opportunities for school leaders, school staff and governing boards to attend trainings. The existing onboarding program was designed to mainly support new school leaders. Webinars CSI Website CSI Guidebook School Leaders Meetings CSI New and Transfer School Leaders Orientation
3 Onboarding/Training Goal & Objective Goal Improve and expand the onboarding/training process and materials for new school leaders, school board members, and school staff. Objective Develop a robust online platform to provide effective and efficient onboarding/training with customizable tracks for a variety of experience levels and needs.
4 Why Onboarding? CSI is required by statute to monitor the operations of Institute schools to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Who? The onboarding/training program is designed to provide support for: school leaders of new CSI schools, new school leaders to CSI schools, current school leaders needing additional information/clarification current school staff working to meet local, state and federal requirements, and current and new school board members What? The purpose of the onboarding/training program is to provide: information and resources for satisfying the local, state, and federal requirements information and resources for each authorization and oversight area specific to CSI
5 Why Onboarding? Processes and responsibilities are different for CSI charter from charter schools authorized by a district. Staff turnover in schools requires a system to be in place to provide the necessary training to meet all of the demands placed on school leaders and school staff. 7 New Online Platform training.csi.state.us is powered by Totara LMS Totara is an open source, learning management system (LMS) that caters to corporate enterprises. The Totara LMS system was originally looked at as a tool for board governance training because includes: Sophisticated reporting including a reporting dashboard Management hierarchy, allowing administrators to review and manage their team's learning Competency structure where you can link roles with learning resources and courses Totara has applications at CSI for: Board governance training New and transfer school onboarding Departmental training Standardizing practices across departments

9 Board Governance There are numerous organizations outside of CSI that provide board governance training. Board on Track and CLCS are working to advance this body of work. CDE also has the online board training modules. CSI understands the importance of augmenting, enhancing, and tailoring there board trainings with to support board members of CSI schools.
10 Board Governance CSI is working to develop a board training search tool. Board members can search for trainings based on a variety of criteria: Topic (10 identified modules) Vision and Mission Board Membership Board Development Board Policies, Compliance and Responsibilities Board Bylaws Experience level (new, intermediate, and advanced) School s accreditation level (PI/T, I/P, D) Board Communication Board Fiduciary Duties Board/School Leader Relationship Authorizer Relations Special Education

12 Board Governance CSI has also developed a board needs assessment. Initially it is designed to allow us to customize the development of our training options and access to trainings based on the current needs of school board. Eventually it will be used as a part of the online system to help identify learning pathways for board members.
13 Board Governance CSI has several recorded webinars already posted to the CSI website as well as several presentations and guides. We are in the process of creating webinars for all of these resources and all will be added to the online platform.
14 Departmental Training CSI departments have various trainings scheduled throughout the year for various school contacts. CSI departments will be transitioning to the new platform throughout the year and by the end of the year all departments will be offering training though the new platform. Using the online platform will allow CSI to: Standardize training practices across departments Develop multiple learning pathways for new and returning staff Deliver training asynchronously Identify training schedules and progressions Expand the effort to tier processes and requirements for CSI schools based on performance
