2 Welcome Welcome to the Global Conference on Child Injury Prevention: Collaborating for the Future. We are excited to bring together leading researchers, practitioners, advocates, and policy makers from around the globe in all the major areas of child injury prevention and control to review the progress made since the 2008 landmark World Report on Child Injury Prevention and to discuss directions for the future. The key theme of the conference is Collaborating for the Future. Our hope is that this conference will foster collaboration, network development, and capacity building globally to facilitate our common goal of preventing violence and injury among children and adolescents. The expertise and experience represented by conference speakers and attendees are impressive. We hope at the conclusion of these two days that you will go away with new ideas for strengthening the injury programs in your countries and communities. We also hope that you meet new friends and colleagues with whom you will continue to collaborate for years to come. We would like to thank the conference planning committee for their input and participation as well as The Research Institute and Nationwide Children s Hospital for their support, without which this conference would not have been possible.
