2 Oil and gas people has been designed to offer a better solution to recruiters and candidates in the oil and gas industry. As a valued candidate we want to ensure you use oil and gas people to its full potential. We offer many different ways for you to gain exposure on your job search that you won t have seen on other job sites and would like to explain these to you. This brief guide is designed to get you up and running and using oil and gas people in a few minutes. A lot of our features are self explanatory as we have kept the site as simple as possible to navigate and use. In addition to this manual we also offer a live support service which can be accessed from the contact page. 4 The founder of Oil and Gas People, Kevin Forbes is a contractor who works in the Oil Industry. After spending many years using other oil and gas jobs sites he began to see the flaws in their model. Fed up receiving cold calls about irrelevant positions, never hearing back from recruiters and annoyed at constantly having to re-visit the site and search the latest jobs, Kevin came up with a new concept. Many discussions followed with recruiters and it became obvious that they also experience problems with traditional job sites. Paying for expensive job ads, searching out of date databases having to cold call people and an inbox full of hundreds of irrelevant CV s were all common complaints. Not anymore Page 4 The Beginnings
5 Oil and Gas People is set to change job sites forever. We are leading the way with a model that offers a better more efficient solution for all parties involved. With Oil and Gas People recruiters can post jobs for free and instantly be matched to candidates who not only meet the requirements of their position but are also available and actively looking for work. Unlike other sites our database is live. As a candidate you simply have to update your availability every 60 days, to be automatically matched to positions you meet the requirements for. Recruiters can preview your profile for free and can then send you an automatic with their position, to see if you would like to be put forward. If interested you just click a link to confirm and a match has been made. We then charge a tiny fee to release your contact details to the recruiter. This process ensures recruiters have the best possible chance of placing a candidate before they pay anything. No longer do they need to wait for candidates to apply to job ads and then search through hundreds of CV s. We offer an advanced match process and a simple online screening system that does away with all the time consuming work associated with traditional job sites. Page 5 Our Model Recruiter Advantages
6 When you register on Oil and Gas People you build a profile on the site. We can ask you to spend a bit of time building a highly detailed profile because we give you something in return for your efforts. Once complete your profile becomes your own free online CV that you can link to from anywhere on the Web. Your edited profile is fully optimised to appear in search engine results giving you even further exposure online. When applying for positions on other sites, you can link to your full profile on Oil and Gas People and give recruiters instant access to your online CV / Resume with all your contact details and employment documents which you have attached to your profile. The more information contained within your profile the better as your profile will be picked up for more keywords, both in search engine results and in recruiter searches. By building a detailed and accurate profile we are able to precisely match you to positions posted by recruiters. Page 6 Our Model Candidate Advantages
7 Once you have registered and confirmed your address you will be taken to the profile wizard. Here you will be guided through the various steps to build your profile. You just fill in the information and we do the rest. Although you attach your CV / Resume to your profile, recruiters can not initially see it. Your profile is what we use to match you to positions and it is what recruiters will see when searching our database. It is therefore essential you take the time to include all your information. Each field is searchable. You may think it is not so important to include your entire work history and all your certificates but recruiters can search by previous company, job title, certification and much more. If the information is not in your profile you may miss out. You can edit individual sections of your profile at any time. You need to complete your profile to at least 60% for it to go live. Areas marked in red may require more attention but this is just a guide You only need to build your profile once and the exposure you can gain from it is worth the initial effort. Simply confirming your availability every 60 days will keep you live on the site, visible to search engines and fully searchable to recruiters. Page 7 Building Your Profile
8 We have a share button located on each job page that easily allows you to positions to friends and colleagues. Using the Share button you can also instantly share jobs via popular social networking platforms. Once you have applied for a position you can track it from your My Jobs section in your admin panel. Recruiters are required to update their jobs status regularly and you will be able to instantly see what stage the position is at. Now you will always receive feedback on positions applied for. Recruiters don t have to match their positions against our database. All positions also go live on the site and you are still able to apply in the traditional way, although we have made some improvements... No longer do you need to attach cover letters. Your profile is very detailed and all the information a recruiter needs should be contained within it. Simply flagging positions you are interested in will highlight your profile to the recruiter. 9 The Profile Links page explains it in more detail but basically you can link to 2 versions of your profile. An edited version that hides your personal details and a full version that enables recruiters full access to all your contact details and documents for free. Your edited profile should be used to link from social networking sites, forums, blogs and even your signature. Your full profile link should only be sent to trusted parties as it gives them access to all your contact details and documents. From your profile section you can find the button Link to Profile from here you can get your profile links and even HTML for banners to place on your website or blog. 10 To get the best exposure from the site it is best you understand how recruiters will search for you. Recruiters search fields match each section of your profile. Recruiters can prioritise their requirements and search as little or as many fields as they want. Each of the fields you see here is expandable and offers recruiters more options. Recruiters can mark any search field as essential and only show candidates who meet their exact requirements. The more requirements you meet the higher you will display in results. It is essential that you take the time to build a full and accurate profile on the site so you can be accurately matched to positions. Filling out your work history is essential as it will be full of relevant keywords that recruiters can search. Recruiters can even find you by previous companies you have worked for. Recruiters can also do a basic search by position type or location and see all available candidates in order of those most recently available. Updating your availability regularly will keep you near the top in these search results. Page 10 How Recruiters Search
11 This is the preview recruiters will first see of your profile. Here they can view an instant summary of your profile based on the fields they have searched. Recruiters can see what you are looking for, your previous job titles, your availability, location, nationality, experience, qualifications, project experience, training, language skills, salary and more. A bar lets recruiters view how closely you match all their stated requirements. Recruiters may only spend a few seconds scanning each profile preview so you want to make sure your profile contains all the required information. Recruiters can then choose to view your full profile for further, more accurate screening. Page 11 How Recruiters Search
12 Set Profile Privacy : We recommend you have your profile set to public so recruiters can contact you with little effort. However we give you the option to set your profile to private. If private, recruiters will only be able to see your contact details with your permission. You will receive an through the site with a request for access. My Jobs : Here you can view all your applications and also requests for confirmation of interest from any recruiter who has contacted you, in relation to a specific position. You can also view all jobs listed on the site that match your requirements by clicking on my jobs and then Recommendations. Set Availability : In order to stay live on our system you need to update your availability at least once every 60 days. Only profiles set to available or passively looking will be displayed to recruiters automatically. When your availability is about to expire we will you. If you are not looking for work then just set your profile to not looking. You can activate it again at any time. Page 12 Your Control Panel
13 Complete your profile : The more information you add the better. Every field of your profile can be searched by recruiters. Candidates who match the most fields are returned higher in recruiter s results. Attach Documents : Take the time to upload all your documents and certificates. It will save time later when you are accepted for a position. It also allows recruiters a more advanced screening process.the site can be used to store / back up all your employment documents and you have access to them at any time. Update your availability regularly : We only ever return candidates who are available and actively looking for work. You need to update your status at least every 60 days to stay live on the site. Link to your profile : If you click my profile you will see an option Link to Profile this page contains the links that allow you to use your profile as your own free online CV. Send your profile link : When applying for job posts on other sites, link to your full profile and give recruiters access to your online CV, Contact details and all documents for free. Get your profile on Google : Linking to your profile is the best way to improve its popularity in search results. Search engines rank pages by how many incoming links they have. Link from social networking sites, forums and blogs to increase your profiles rankings and your exposure online. Page 13 Maximize Exposure
14 Community Site : Our community site is a place where oil and gas people can network and exchange information. Soon to be made into a useful resource for new starts to the industry the site will offer lots of information and the latest oil and gas news. The community is a great way to stay in touch with friends and colleagues in the industry and offers instant chat, forums, blogs and more Recruiter Directory : Our recruiter directory will go live soon and will offer a fully searchable list of recruiters using the site. Populated over time we hope to include all companies who recruit in the oil and gas market. It is sure to be a valuable resource on your job search.
