CHAPTER 25 - SAVING WEB SITES TO THE INTERNET Having successfully completed your Web site you are now ready to save (or post, or upload, or ftp) your Web site to the Internet. Web Studio has three ways to get your site on the web: With its integrated Trial Hosting; With its integrated ihoststudio hosting; With the Web Studio Publisher for those who already have hosting or don t wish to use the ihoststudio hosting. Trial Hosting the Quickest Way to the Web Trial Hosting is the quickest way to the web! You simply tell ihoststudio your name and address and your site is hosted! Remember, Trial Hosting is not permanent hosting. It is meant for you to try out your site without affecting your real site, share it with friends or colleagues for comment, etc. Your site will be available for 24 hours, plenty of time to get the feedback you need. And when you revise your site, just Trial Host it again for 24 more hours of comments. You can use Trial Hosting as often as you like, there is no limit! Note: You don t have to open an ihoststudio account to use Trial Hosting. You can use Trial Hosting no matter what web site hosting service you use! Trial Hosting your Site 1. First choose WebSite>Trial Host Web Site or Page>Trial Host This Page.. 2. The Trial Host Wizard will appear. 3. Follow the instructions in the wizard. 4. That s it! Web Studio s Integrated Web Site Hosting - ihoststudio ihoststudio eliminates the confusion and frustration experienced when trying to upload to other web hosting services! With Web Studio 4.0 and its integrated web site hosting all of the confusion and frustration goes the way of the dinosaurs.
With ihoststudio you will find it easy to upload and update your Web site with no hassle. You won t have to learn confusing UNIX commands, or deal with hard to use FTP programs. Even those with the lightest of computer knowledge will find it easy to get their web site up and running, with just the click of a few buttons. ihoststudio s Paid Hosting Plans Since all web users are not the same, ihoststudio has different types of Web site accounts: Trial, basic, and Business Plans. small business, organizations, clubs, schools, personal and family, anyone who doesn t need e-commerce on their website; while Business Sites are made for rigors of the business world. Trial Hosting: First, Trial Hosting is FREE! Second, you don t even have to have a web hosting account, with ihoststudio or anyone else to instantly get on the web! Trial Hosting lets you quickly save your site to the net so you can check things out. The site stays available for 24 hours after which it is removed from the internet. You can use Trial Hosting as much as you like. This is nice when you want to try out different things, get others to view or test your site. Test the site you are modifying without affecting your live site. The nicest thing is you don t have to bother deleting it when you re done. Basic Plan: The Basic Plan account is designed for small business, organizations, clubs, schools, personal and family, anyone who doesn t need e-commerce on their website. Great features are included such as excellent technical support from ihoststudio, customized with domain name, unlimited updating, support for Custom Domain names, tons of space, and the ability to add many server side functions such as hit counters, guest books, and more. Business Plans: All of the Business plans include the ihoststudio Shopping Cart! The business site plans are designed for businesses of all sizes. They includes features that businesses need like the shopping cart, customized with domain name; in-depth statistics; Order forms; huge storage space; automatic submission to search engines; SSL security for taking orders over the internet; and technologies such as PHP, ASP, MySQL, Access database and more. When you open your new account, you ll get all the details about the various accounts and their features. A Few Easy Steps to Hosting with ihoststudio Open a New Hosting Account 1. First choose WebHosting>iHostStudio Account Manager. 2. Click the Open button to open a new hosting account with ihoststudio.
3. The ihoststudio Wizard comes up. 4. Follow the directions in the Wizard to choose the type of hosting you want, search for and acquire a domain name, transfer your existing domain name, etc. 5. Once you ve finished, your web hosting account is ready for you to use. 6. Finally choose WebHosting>Use ihoststudio For This Site. Saving to the Internet You are now ready to save your site to the Internet. When your site is ready just follow these simple steps. 1. Choose WebSite>Save Web Site to Internet and the ihoststudio Upload dialog comes up. If you have more than one account with ihoststudio, choose the appropriate one in the Web Site pop-up menu. Enter your password. Make sure the Root Website Directory is checked appropriately. Click Next. For more information about the Root Website Directory feature see Chapter 19 - Web Studio s Property Dialogs> WebSite Properties Dialog> Advanced Tab> When Uploading your Web site. 2. Click on either the Upload Entire Site or Only Changes buttons. Click the Next button to save your site to the internet. If you have saved this site previously you can use the Upload Changes option by pressing the Upload Changes Button. Saving your entire site again won t hurt anything, it just takes longer and isn t necessary. 3. Once the site has been uploaded you can view it by waiting a moment for the View Site Now button to become active. Press the View Site Now button to launch your browser and see your site! That s it! Changing your ihoststudio Options Upgrading or downgrading your hosting options, changing your address, or any other contact or payment changes is simple with ihoststudio. 1. Choose WebHosting>iHostStudio Account Manager. 2. Click the Modify button. 3. Make any necessary changes. 4. Click OK. That s it!
Closing your ihoststudio Account If for some reason you wish to close your ihoststudio hosting account, it is also a simple task. Closing your account means you don t want to use ihoststudio any more and are going to host your web site with a different hosting company. 1. Choose WebHosting>iHostStudio Account Manager 2. Click the Close button. 3. Follow the directions, and please tell us why you are closing your account. 4. Click OK. That s all it takes. Final ihoststudio Note: If you re not convinced to open your ihoststudio account, read the rest of this chapter. And while you are, remember that Web Studio Publisher is one of the easiest to use ways to get your site to the internet. But it is not as easy as ihoststudio! Saving to the Internet Using the Web Studio Publisher Web Studio includes the Web Studio Publisher to enable you to use hosting services other than ihoststudio. There is a bit more to using other hosting services, so read the remainder of this chapter closely. If you have problems return here to re-read the appropriate sections. The best place for help is your web site hosting provider, sometimes called an ISP. If you remember just a few simple guidelines, and use Web Studio s helpful Publisher wizard, this part of Web building will be easier. Using FTP When you send a letter to a family member you must place the correct address on the envelope or it will be returned to your home with a stamp that says "Not deliverable". The process of sending your completed Web site to the Internet is the similar to mailing a letter. You need to know a couple of basic Web "addresses" to send your Web Studio Web site to a computer that can be accessed by everyone on the Internet. When you sign up for your Web space (via your ISP, a Hosting company, or through any of the various Free Web sites available) you are given space on one of their computers. This space has an address just like your home address. The company that provides the space for you will send you an that gives you the following information: A user name: This is used to "log on" or gain access to the company's computer and it help them identify you from other users.
A password: This provides you with some security by making it difficult for anyone else to access your Web space. A Remote Site Folder: This is the exact location of where your Web site files reside on their computer. This is similar to your street address. (Not required by all) FTP Address: This is the unique Web address for the company that is providing the Web space for you. This is similar to what city you live in. Armed with this information you can be confident that you have all the information you need to send your Web sites to the right space using Web Studio s Publisher. We have made it easy for you to use FTP in Web Studio. The first time you send a site to the Internet we ask you to enter all of the above information. Web Studio then saves this information so you never have to enter it again. After your first successful "upload", every subsequent upload will require you to press only one button. That's it To begin the Web Studio Publisher Wizard chose WebSite>Save Web Site to Internet. Create/Edit a New Destination Welcome to the Destination Wizard! By creating a new Destination Setting you will be able to easily upload your site to the Internet. You must create a Destination Setting for each Web account you have. (Many people have several Web space providers. You can make a setting for each one in Web Studio!) Once created you do not have to enter this information again. Web Studio will save it for you, making subsequent uploads as easy as pushing the Upload button! To create your Destination Setting you will need to know the following: The Name of your Web Space Provider (e.g. your ISP, a Hosting company, Free Web sites)
User Name, you selected it when you got your hosting account. Password, you selected it when you got your hosting account. FTP Address, provided by the Web Space Provider. Remote Site Folder (Not applicable to all), provided by the Web Space Provider. Home Page URL, this is the complete URL to your home page, provided by the Web Space Provider. You can find the above information in the confirmation you received when you signed up with your Web Space Provider. If you cannot find the , contact your Web Space Provider and they will provide you with the information. Note: If you do not have access to Web space through your ISP, check out Web Studio s integrated ihoststudio hosting or browse the Web for some of the companies that offer free Web space. Many companies offer as much as 20 MB of Web site space! Press Nex to start. Destination Settings Name First you need to give your destination s settings a name that will identify them to you as your Web space provider. (e.g. "My ISP") Choose a name for your destination. This name will appear in the "Available Destinations" box on the Upload page. After completing this wizard, each time you chose WebSite>Save Web Site to Internet you will see an "Available Destinations" box that will list all the destination settings you have entered into Web Studio s Destination Wizard. Destination Choose your Web Space Provider here. If you don't see the company that provides you with Web space, choose Other. Don t Press Next. Read the following Important note. Important Note What happens next depends on what you entered as your Destination. Some destinations require more information than others, some less. The remaining pages in the wizard are: Identification, FTP Address, Remote Site Folder, and Home Page. If you choose Other, you ll see each of these pages. The other choices will only display the pages your Web Space provider needs, ignoring information it doesn t need. This simplifies the process for those people who have their Web Space provider listed in Web Studio.
Look at the title of the Wizard pages to see which sections to refer to next. The Wizard s title s correspond to the following section headings. Some Destinations don t require any additional information, in which case you re done! Identification Enter your Web Space account s user name and password. Check the "Save Password" box and Web Studio will save the information for you so you do not have to enter it again! FTP Address Enter the FTP provided by your Web Space provider. If you do not know this, please contact your Web Space provider and ask them for their "FTP Address". Some Web Space providers have instructions on their web sites. Take a look and see if they tell you the FTP Address before you give them a call. e.g. "ftp.myisp.com". Remote Site Folder Enter the Remote Site Folder required to post your Web site using FTP. Some Web Space providers don t require a Remote Site Folder, some do. Home Page Enter the complete ULR or address for your Home page. This may be used later to preview your uploaded site. Once you upload your site you can preview it instantly if you have provided this information. Tips These last three pages in the wizard, FTP Address, Remote Site Folder, and Home Page are the places that some people have problems. It was mentioned earlier that these are like your home street address. These specify the exact location, or folder that your Web site will be placed on the "host" computer. You must know this address and you must enter it EXACTLY!!!!. Just as in major cities, Main St. can be quite different from Main Rd., your directory path is singularly unique. Make sure you follow the following rules. You type the FTP Address and/or Remote Site Folder in case sensitive manner. (e.g. My Site is different from my site)
You make sure your slashes are in the right places, that there are enough of them and they are going the right direction. Help For help using the Web Studio Publisher Wizard, click the Help button at the bottom right of any page in the wizard. For specific help about the information you need to enter into the wizard, contact your Web site hosting provider. They will have the information you need. Back To The Beach won t be able to help you here since we don t have access to your Web Space provider s records.
