3 WELCOME SOCIAL ECONOMY IN A GLOBALIZED WORD CIRIEC - Portugal and CIRIEC International have the pleasure to welcome you to the 5th CIRIEC International Research Conference on Social Economy. CIRIEC International (the International Centre of Research and Information on the Public, Social and Cooperative Economy) is an international, non-governmental scientific organization which brings together enterprises and entities of the social economy (cooperatives, mutual societies, foundations and cultural and philanthropic associations) and of the public sector, as well as people interested in these fields. The aims of this organization, which was founded in 947, include promoting international exchanges between the different types of enterprise that are focused on serving the collective or general interest and between business people and the scientific world. Its Scientific Commission Social and Cooperative Economy integrates experts in this research field from around twenty countries all over the world and develops research working groups, public funded research projects, seminaries and, since 2007, biennale International research conferences in Victoria (Canada), Ostersund (Sweden), Valladolid (Spain) and Antwerp (Belgium). CIRIEC-Portugal, founded in 988, is a non-profit scientific association that researches the field of public and social economics. It is based at Lisbon and brings together social economy researchers from Portuguese universities as well as some of the main social economy sector organizations in Portugal. The general theme for this 5th Research Conference is Social economy in a globalized world. There will also be specialized workshops dedicated to the CIRIEC workgroup Social Economy and Territories and to scientific journals, their current situation and challenges. This International Conference is gathering together more that 400 researchers coming from all continents, as is has been being habitual in these CIRIEC events. The event will happen in Edifício II from this Institute, also accessible to people with reduced mobility, being equipped with lifts, access ramps and appropriate bathrooms. 6 Opening Ceremony Opening Ceremony of the 5th CIRIEC International Research Conference on Social Economy will take place on Thursday, July 5 at 6h30 at the main auditorium of the ISCTE - IUL. This session will be followed by a performance of Cante Alentejano and a welcome drink. There is an information point in each venue, as well as hostesses. Please ask them if you require assistance of any kind. Official language English will be the official language of the Congress. We encourage presenters who face difficulties in communicating in English to have a more detailed power point presentation in English, highlighting the key points of their presentation more effectively, even if the oral presentation is done in another language (French, Portuguese or Spanish). Technical equipment All meeting rooms (classrooms) are equipped for PowerPoint projection only. Please migrate your presentation to the computer of your session room before the beginning of your session. In case your presentation takes place at the auditorium please deliver a copy of your presentation to the reggie at least two hours before your session. The staff will be at your disposal (each floor / each venue) to help you in case you need technical support. Wireless internet During the entire conference free Wi-Fi internet will also be available. No transportation will be provided. Please note that the dinner is not included in the registration fee and an admission voucher is required. 7 USEFUL INFORMATION A-Z Attendance certificate An attendance certificate will be sent by to all the registered participants. ATMS (cash dispensing machines) ATMs are available at the venue. Badges Participants will receive their name badges at the registration desk and should ensure that these are worn (clearly visible) during all sessions, in lunch and coffee break areas and at the welcome session. Currency EURO (Portugal is a member of the European Monetary System). Currency exchange This service is available at all banks, open to the public Monday through Friday, from 8h30 to 5h00. It is also available at currency exchange shops as well as in the main hotels and travel agencies. Electric Current The Portuguese standard is the European type 2 pin socket with 220 volts AC at 50 cycles. The phase 380 volt current is normally available in meeting rooms and exhibition halls. Health Requirements With the exception of vaccination certificates for persons coming from areas where yellow fever is endemic there are no special health requirements. 8 Sales Tax Sales tax (VAT) is included in prices quoted. For non EU residents, tax free shopping is available in many shops and provides significant savings. Smoking The Portuguese law does not permit smoking in any public transport or in any closed public areas. Some restaurants, bars and discos may have a designated smoking area. Tipping Tipping is optional, but 0% is the regular practice in taxis, restaurants and bars. Further information can be obtained at Tourism Information Counter in the airport s Arrivals Hall. Value Added Tax (VAT) VAT is charged at the official rate prevailing at the time of invoice.
