6 20 Data mining assistant Help with data mining and codification of information form a database of Spanish entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurial management Rachida Justo The Internet and collaborative technologies have contributed to the emergence of crowdsourcing, where tasks that are traditionally performed by employees are outsourced to a group of people the so-called crowd. One type of crowd-sourcing is open innovation, which firms rely on to reduce the costs and shorten the time associated with innovation activity. 21 Research assistant Innovation activity is laden with assorted risk factors even when that activity is conducted in the traditional way i.e., kept in-house. Introducing open innovation to carry out innovation activity potentially changes both the set of risk factors and the level of any single risk factor. Key management challenges are to understand how both the set and levels of risk factors change, and to minimize these risks through a collection of risk mitigation strategies. The research fellow will join a research team that is currently investigating the research issues described above. The research tasks will include, but are not limited to, literature review, data collection and data analyses activities. A deliverable will be a written case study on a client firm s open innovation initiatives. The case study is an in-depth examination of real open innovation initiatives with a focus on the risk factors that present, the risk mitigation strategies used in response, and a post-audit assessment of those strategies effectiveness. The research fellow will learn a lot about open innovation as a means to carry out innovation activity, the risks and risk mitigation strategies associated with open innovation, and the platforms (vendors) that facilitate crowd-sourcing for open innovation for client firms.
