LEADERSHIP SIMULATIONS AND THE SCANDINAVIAN APPROACH TO LEARNING AND CHANGE INVITATION TO WORKSHOP ON THE 14 TH OF NOVEMBER IN PALO ALTO October 2014
INVITATION TO WORKSHOP The Scandinavian approach For the first time in the U.S. the Copenhagenbased change agency Workz is conducting a workshop based on their unique approach to game-based learning, change management and strategy execution. Workz is an innovative company of thought leaders in their fields and our clients include a wide range of leading Scandinavian and European corporations within the pharmaceutical, transport, finance, energy, engineering, service, FMCG and IT sectors. Our leadership simulations have been used by more than managers. The session will combine insights from a Scandinavian approach and cases with a unique opportunity to take a closer look at a range of specific solutions. From board game-based leadership simulations on topics like change leadership, team performance, stakeholder engagement and strategy execution to bespoke market and business simulations. The workshop will be facilitated by Managing Director Ask Agger. Through more than 15 years of experience as a Consultant and Executive Advisor, Ask has been involved in many of the largest Scandinavian change projects in the past decade, including projects for market leaders like Maersk, Carlsberg, ISS, Novozymes and Novo Nordisk. The workshop is organized in collaboration with Innovation Center Denmark in Palo Alto. Target group and takeaways The workshop is for professionals who work with training, leadership development, change management or strategy execution in large organizations. Either in an internal capacity or as external consultants or academics. Key takeaways: Inspiration from a Scandinavian approach to working with change and learning in large organizations, including insight from a number of specific cases. A opportunity to try out a number of leadership simulations and tools, and to learn about how gamification can accelerate learning and organizational efficiency. An opportunity to network with other professionals. Practical information and registration Time: The 14 th of November from 9 AM to 12 PM. Location: Innovation Center Denmark 200 Page Mill Rd, Palo Alto. To reserve a seat please contact Ditte Marie Kaae at dmk@workz.dk. For questions and other inquiries please contact Ask Agger at aa@workz.dk or Participation is free of charge.
Source: USA TODAY ON LEADERSHIP SIMULATIONS How do you prepare to deliver your best when it really counts? In sports the professional approach is to fine-tune team performance and collaboration on the training court before playing the real match. You try to leave behind the worst mistakes and misunderstandings. What do we do to prepare ourselves when it really matters in big organizations? How often do we gather the team for a training or warmup session before launching a new strategy or implementing a strategic change project? In most organizations it rarely or never happens. There are no test matches or training sessions before the game starts. And therefore we make too many unnecessary rookie mistakes when it really counts. Lack of team preparation and change management training is one of the key reasons why most companies struggle when it comes to organizational change. Board game based leadership simulations offer a highly efficient way to facilitate a training environment where team alignment and efficiency can be improved. It is about elevating the organizational change capability. Workz A/S 2014
LEADERSHIP SIMULATION EXAMPLE: WALLBREAKERS - CHANGE LEADERSHIP Wallbreakers is a leadership simulation about change management and how you handle resistance to change in your organization. From motivating your team to understanding how different personality profiles react in times of turbulence. In the simulation you play a manager in charge of leading a team through a difficult merger in a fictional IT organization. You have to make tough decisions regarding speed of implementation and which leadership actions are needed in order to influence your team. The simulation is based on some of the most recognized theories within change management including Edgar Schein, John P. Kotter, Rick Maurer and Daniel Goleman. More info at
LEADERSHIP SIMULATION EXAMPLE: GAMECHANGERS - STRATEGY EXECUTION How do you create momentum in the execution of strategy in complex organizations? This simulation focuses on stakeholder engagement and how to create a platform for efficient change. In the simulation you are in charge of rolling out a new strategy in the fictitious conglomerate Thorne Industries. Your success depends on your ability to create a clear direction, to secure the support of key stakeholders, and to handle a number of potential conflicts and competing agendas. The simulation enhances the understanding of strategy execution, negotiation, and the ability to influence assets. Gamechangers is used by numerous international organizations to train managers and change agents, but also to support the implementation of key strategic projects. The simulation is based on some of the most recognized theories within strategy execution, change management, and negotiation including Richard Shell, John P. Kotter, and Stephen Bungay. More info at
LEADERSHIP SIMULATION EXAMPLE: PLAYMAKERS - TEAM PERFORMANCE Playmakers is a simulation about team performance, project leadership, and handling stakeholders. It is about delivering high performance in the balance between managing your team and involving your stakeholders. The simulation takes place in a fictitious IT company where you are in charge of leading a five-person project team. You must deliver on quality, budget, and time by prioritizing your actions from handling your steering committee and other external stakeholders to taking care of the internal dynamics between your team members. The simulation is great for both training essential leadership skills, but also for improving the ability of project managers to lead their project successfully. More info at
MARKET AND BUSINESS SIMULATIONS In addition to our portfolio of generic leadership simulations we also design bespoke solutions for our clients. One specialty is business/market/industry simulations where we emulate your market development, business model, and competitor landscape. These solutions can either be used internally to strengthen the understanding and acceptance of your strategy, or be used as part of the strategic development process, where you get a unique opportunity to pressure test key assumptions and different scenarios. We have designed market and business simulations for a broad range of clients including industry leaders within the telecom, IT, shipping, accounting, service and pharmaceutical sectors.
