13 Hard criteria of the offshore wind energy development towards the seaports Harbor Access: Sheltered harbor. Unobstructed vertical (overhead) clearance. Minimum horizontal clearance greater than 40 m. Minimum low tide navigational channel depth of 7.3 m. 24/hour/day and 7 days/week operational availability. Exclusive use of staging facility. Port Facilities: Minimum berth length of 138 m. Minimum berth water depth of 7.3 m. Lay down storage and assembly backland area larger than 4 hectares. Proximity to likely offshore wind farm site. 14 Other criteria of the offshore wind energy development towards the seaports Berthing Facilities: Availability of large cranes of sufficient size and type. Piers with high load carrying capacities. Capacity to handle hundreds of additional port calls/year. Geographic Location: Located proximate to related marine infrastructure and equipment. As close as possible to component manufacturers. Lack of extreme weather conditions (tides. ice). Region in the Vicinity of the Seaport: Accommodation facilities for workers and visitors. Access to a sufficient and trained work force. Development is welcomed by the community. Development is welcomed by the regulators (transport, energy, environment). Development will contribute to economic & social growth.
