5 What is edgebox? edgebox is a software suite that runs on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware. Various certified COTS hardware platforms for different performance requirements: 5

6 Integrated Voice and Data Full IP-PBX solution based on Asterisk Analogue and Digital PSTN gateway (FXO/FXS, BRI, PRI) Allows transparent VoIP calls to internal extensions, remote edgebox switches, ITSP or PSTN network Supports SIP and IAX Integrated QoS for voice and data enables VoIP as a reliable service Can be scaled as requirements grow by simply upgrading the COTS hardware 6

8 Connectivity 1. Phones/faxes connect through analogue phone cards with FXS ports 2. Softphones or USB phones on laptops and WiFi phones connect through an integrated WiFi Access Point 3. PCs with softphones or USB phones connect through the LAN 4. IP Phones, or analogue phones with a suitable adaptor, connect via the LAN 5. Calls can be routed to and from ISP via an ADSL connection 6. Calls can be also routed through an existing telephone service (analogue or digital) 8

9 Outbound Routing Sophisticated call routing tables allow the lowest cost route to be pre-selected, e.g. Via the Internet to branch offices in different countries to reduce cost Via the existing telephone network for other international calls to guarantee call quality Select carrier that provides the lowest cost for the destination called Calls are connected to a specific service by dialing a prefix code that identifies the server Different routes can be defined to provide continuity when services fail 9

10 Inbound Routing ACD functions for distributing large volumes of calls: Set up voice menus with graphical IVR editor Define multiple queues from the menus and assign agents to queues Define frequency of the announce position message Define ring strategy, e.g. ring all, round robin, ring agent with fewest calls Define max number of callers waiting in a queue Assign priorities to queues Configure music on hold Create rules for different time periods, e.g. for holiday cover Direct Inward Dial (DID) 10

11 Continuity Calls made through the edgebox can be connected using any available service provider: Via an ISP over the Internet through one or more ITSPs Via the existing analogue or digital telephone networks For all calls, Telephone Number Mapping (ENUM) can be used to search for a SIP registered numbers, if no number is found, PSTN is used instead If either IP or PSTN network fails, calls are transparently routed via alternative network 11

20 Stablish your requirements Modelo de QoS Traffic classes Diferentiate (inbound) and (outbound). Hierarquical definition Características de largura de banda: largura de banda mínima garantida, máxima permitida e possibilidade de empréstimo de largura de banda. Políticas: prioridades (absolutas e relativas) e débito (rate-based). 20

21 Disciplinadores Considerados PQ (Priority Queueing) neste esquema, os pacotes de tráfego são inseridos em filas com diferentes prioridades. Os pacotes são retirados de uma dada fila somente quando as filas de prioridade mais elevada estiverem vazias. Dentro de cada fila, os pacotes são normalmente escalonados segundo uma ordem first-in first-out (FIFO). CBQ (Class Based Queue classful) também conhecido com WRR (Weighted Round Robin Queueing), este disciplinador permite atribuir diferentes percentagens de largura de banda a diferentes filas, ao mesmo tempo que, ao retirar de cada fila, em cada passagem do disciplinador, pelo menos um pacote, evita o estrangulamento de tráfegos menos prioritários. TBF (Token Bucket Filter) limita o tráfego a um dado débito permitindo, no entanto, pequenas rajadas de excesso de tráfego. 21

22 Disciplinadores Considerados WFQ (Weighted Fair Queueing) Este disciplinador é um modelo FQ que suporta fluxos com diferentes requisitos de largura de banda, atribuindo a cada fluxo um dado peso correspondente a uma percentagem de largura de banda do porto de saída Normalmente, a atribuição de pacotes a filas é feita através do campo TOS. Este modelo utiliza um algoritmo complexo que ultrapassa a limitação do FQ em que tráfegos com pacotes maiores têm mais largura de banda do que tráfegos com pacotes menores. Uma variação deste disciplinador é o modelo Class-Based WFQ, que faz o escalonamento de um número limitado de filas atribuídas a agregados de tráfego. SFQ (Stochastic Fairness Queueing) O tráfego é dividido num número de filas FIFO, servidas segundo uma ordem round robin. No entanto, não há uma fila por cada sessão, antes utiliza um algoritmo que divide o tráfego por um número limitado de filas. A divisão do tráfego em classes utiliza um algoritmo hashing. Embora seja possível a utilização de um único disciplinador, tal como o CBQ, é teoricamente aconselhada a utilização conjunta de alguns destes disciplinadores. Para além destes disciplinadores, é ponderada a utilização de mecanismos RED para a prevenção de congestão e de mecanismos token e leaky bucket para a realização de modelação na interface de saída. 22
