What our students have to say How have the Ulead workshops impacted your practice as a leader? I am more thorough, organized, team oriented and reflective. The ULEAD program is a MUST for any serious leader who aspires to make a positive change in their organization. Antonio Aulino, UTECH The social media workshop definitely brought to our attention the importance of online interaction. Even though we had sporadic discussions about updating our social media account throughout the year, the topic was mainly in the background. The workshop inspired ideas for content creation and of hashtag management. (Now we know how to use hashtags strategically and in an organized manner!) Danielle Ng, Peace by PEACE the workshops improved our practice as leaders by providing a forum for deep reflection and discussion. We are so busy planning we rarely have time to reflect and discuss Audrey Rochette and Dhanela Paran, Crane and Hoof Clan Leaders Native Students Association
What our students have to say What were your favourite parts of the Ulead program? My favorite part of the ULEAD program was meeting new and like minded people. Antonio Aulino, UTECH Our fav part was the reflection workshop, we feel that our events are successful due to amazing members but we rarely analyze where we could do even better. This exercise will enable us to grow stronger as a group Audrey Rochette and Dhanela Paran, Crane and Hoof Clan Leaders Native Students Association The best thing about this workshop, as cheesy as it sounds, is the people who host it. Kristen was honestly a delight who actually cared about the people who came in and attempted (and succeeded) in getting both extroverts and introverts (such as myself) involved in activities in a comfortable way. Her remembering names as well as the people who actually come to the workshop was a pleasant surprise to me Thanansajan Satheeswaran, Executive (Awareness Coordinator) in UTSG Tamil Students' Association
What our students have to say If you were advising a student life professional from another school, what pieces of the ulead program should they ensure they include? They should include the chance for different group members to interact and share ideas. Antonio Aulino, UTECH A social media workshop! Danielle Ng, Peace by PEACE While we can have presenters drone on about the essentials of leaderships and the different types of leaders, it is a much richer experience if we ourselves are involved and actively participating in the learning process. This is something that should remain intact within Ulead for the foreseeable future. Thanansajan Satheeswaran, Executive (Awareness Coordinator) in UTSG Tamil Students' Association
Opportunities for Additional Student Involvement Topic Suggestion Workshop Development and Facilitation Advisory Board Ulead conference 5 minute keynotes/ ted talk Student leader panel Case study development and judges
Comments from our student presenters Presenting at the conference made me critically reflect on my values and practices as a leader. Because I had to put it all into words for my presentation, I had the opportunity to look at what I had been doing with more objectivity and focus. I also had to be ready for criticism from other leaders. Leaders are used to doing, but they rarely have the chance to explain why they re doing what they do. Louis Train, Peace by PEACE I particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to share the knowledge I had gained with other student leaders. I was fortunate to have such great mentors in my early years of student involvement, so getting the change to give back & beyond to other clubs was rewarding. Amanda Santos, UofT Ironsports
