8 Rachel Chandra Selvan Web Developer / Tester for Master of Computi ng graduate Postgraduate Diploma in Computing graduate After working as a programme analyst in India for three years I wanted to enhance my career and study abroad. I fell in love with the beautiful green Unitec campus, and because the postgraduate computing classes were at the weekends, it was convenient to manage work and family. Unitec has amazing lecturers who teach what is relevant and in demand in the current IT market. They are also approachable and quick to respond if you need help. One of my greatest achievements was being offered a scholarship to complete my master s. Now I work for the best online news website in New Zealand and I love my job. I get to develop new features and modules, and ensure we release products with the best user experience. The papers I studied at Unitec taught me a lot about the ins and outs of developing and maintaining a website, as well as the software development lifecycle and how businesses can leverage the Internet. I m looking forward to gaining more knowledge in software development and new technologies, and the challenges my role will bring.

10 Dmitry Shuvaev Unitec lecturer, Computing and Information Technology Postgraduate Diploma in Computing graduate Before studying at Unitec I was an IT specialist for a telecommunication company in Russia for several years. I worked in many different IT roles including analyst, system administrator, programmer and system architect. I did a lot of IT training during this time, as well as self-study, but I wanted to gain a proper IT education. I chose Unitec because it offered a good balance of academic learning and practical experience. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the lack of a teacher-student gap. It was an amazing experience to discuss modern IT trends with my lecturers an actual dialogue, not just questions and answers. Now that I m a lecturer I love being able to give this same experience to my students. I enjoy the interaction with them, and teaching them the knowledge they will need. For me, I am proud when I see my students using the right approaches and attitudes to succeed in their studies. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the lack of a teacher-student gap.

11 Jerry Li Testing Analyst, Yellow Pages Group Bachelor of Computing Systems graduate I love computing, and I liked that Unitec s Bachelor of Computing Systems was practical, not just covering the theory. My final-year project was a testing project for the Yellow Pages Group and at the end I got an A- for the project and the sponsoring organisation offered me a job. Now testing is my career. I believe the final-year project changed my life without this real-life project I don t think I could have found such a good job straight away after studying. The final-year project and the Unitec project coordinator helped me find what I like and discover my potential. I m finding my degree very relevant to my job now, and I really enjoy the challenges in my work. I want to continue my adventure in software testing there is so much to learn! My next goals are to pass the ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) test and invent more automated testing suites for my project.
