7 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Department of Computer Engineering Internship Guide Students must do an internship in three stages for at least 60 working days 1st INTERNSHIP (time 20 working days / 4 weeks) The purpose of this internship is to get students to become familiar with the computer technology that is available in the market and widely used in enterprises. The selected firms must be using computer technology extensively. In this internship students are expected to do work in the following areas and to report their work. 1 Presentation of the enterprise will be made (the company's name, address, date of establishment, capital structure, the main area of activity, capacity, the number and quality of staff working and the nature of the company, in which sector it operates and its position within its sector, etc.). 2 The site of establishment (general layout) will be demonstrated via a sketch. The location will be evaluated in terms of the proximity to raw materials and markets, transportation facilities, water, energy and labour supply, environmental pollution, legislation, climate and so on. 3-The organizational chart of the enterprise will be provided. The management structure of the enterprise, its problems and well-functioning aspects will be evaluated. 4 - Information Systems of the enterprise will be introduced. To do this: a) Management structure, b) Qualifications of the personnel, c) Structure of the computer network, d) Information and decision flow control mechanism, e) Quality of the equipment used, f) Quality of the software used, g) Quality of the work done will be described. Also, if there are some weak parts in the information system, proposals on how to rectify these deficiencies will be developed. Other observations made apart from the above mentioned issues can be added to the internship report (for example computer programming work in a company). 2nd INTERNSHIP (time 20 working days / 4 weeks) The second internship must focus on the applications of computer technology in engineering. For this reason, students need to have their second internship in engineering companies that use computer technology extensively. In this internship, students are expected to work on the following: 1-The work summarized in the first three items of the first internship will be repeated in this internship as well. 2 - The problems solved through computers will be identified and how these problems are solved will be discussed.

8 3 Detailed information about the network, hardware and software used in the solution process will be provided. 4- If the company uses data base and knowledge base with the above mentioned purpose, information will be given on these subjects and proposals on how to improve these will be brought forward. If there is no work at the desired level on these subjects, proposals on how to obtain them will be developed. 3rd INTERNSHIP (time 20 working days / 4 weeks) The purpose of this internship is to get students to learn system design which is based on computer technology. They will select a problem area in the enterprises they undergo training (for instance, this can be the design of an information system at a bank, or an automation project of a production line in the manufacturing industry). By doing this internship, students should report the following work: 1 The work summarized in the first three items of the first internship will be repeated in this internship as well. 2 A problem area related to the above mentioned will be selected, and a complete system design will be produced by passing it through all the phrases of the "System Analysis and Design" course in the Schedule. FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Industrial Engineering Department Training Guide Students have to attend the training at least 60 days in three stages. 1 st TRAINING STAGE (Time period: 15 work days at least /3 weeks) This training session will be held in a mechanical workshop. 16 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TRAINING GUIDE I) General Information 1. In order to get their Bachelor s Degree, Mechanical Engineering Department students should have training at industrial companies as it will contribute to their education of engineering for at least 60 working days. 2. At the end of training, the student s training evaluation form; training report and training book are delivered to the department s training official no later than the end of the 3 rd week of the term that immediately follows training. Students who do not meet this deadline will not be considered to have finished their training. 3. A training day requires at least 8 hours of physical and mental work. A student can work 6 days as a maximum. In many companies, people work 5 days a week. If there is a document showing that Saturdays are working days then 6 days of training can be written on the report. 4. Students who are attending summer school cannot do training at the same time. 5. In order to have training, a student must have been enrolled as a student in the Mechanical Engineering Department for at least two years. 6. The students, who have completed their course schedules successfully but have been unable to complete all their training requirements, cannot graduate. 7. The general rules of training are stated in Dogus University s Associate Bachelor s Degree Instructions Guide. II) Workplace Choice and How To Start the Training Program 1. Mechanical Engineering Department students should conduct their training at an industrial company which is operating in a field relevant to mechanical engineering. The students can define their working places as they like or can apply to the working places as these are announced by the department, itself. 2. The working place chosen for training should have at least 20 staff, including at least one mechanical engineer, who is appointed as the company training manager in charge of the student during his/her training. 3. Students can apply to any working place for training by an application form taken from Mechanical Engineering Department. 4. The students can conduct their 1 st and 2 nd, or their 1 st and 3rd training at the same company. However the student s 2 nd and 3 rd trainings must be conducted at different companies.

17 5. Training must be in fields that are related to mechanical engineering. Work in fields unrelated to mechanical engineering (e.g.: Sales, Investment Planning, Operation Planning, Project Planning, and Human Resources) are not accepted as contributing to the students training requirement. 6. Before the beginning of training, all the documents and insurance procedures that have been defined at Doğuş University s Associate Bachelor s Degree instructions guide, should be completed. 1 st TRAINING STAGE (Time period: 20 working days at least / 4 weeks) This training study is done at the industrial companies mechanical departments. The aims of training are for students to gain experience and understanding in regard to production processes and engineering fields such as: lathe, grading, planer, etc. machines, weld, calculation techniques and CNC stands that are supported by computers. The student s working schedule should be arranged so as to commit at least 2 days for each of the above fields. The trainee is advised to gain direct hands-on experience by using the related machines and equipment where possible.
