A time-consuming task Until recently the finance team would produce the statutory accounts manually in Word, working from the monthly Excel accounts spreadsheets supplied by the different operating companies in the group. Not only would changes to the figures in the accounts have to be manually updated but the whole document would then need to be checked to ensure all the other figures reflected the change. Any alterations in the required changes to the narratives would also need updating individually wherever they appeared in the accounts. The whole tagging requirement was a big thing at the time but there weren t many providers out there that were using ixbrl, says Permaul.
