10 Emergency Information Important phone numbers: Police Fire For emergency preparedness tips, visit In the event of an EARTHQUAKE 1. If you are indoors, remain inside. Immediately duck, cover and hold under a desk, table, or other sturdy shelter. If there is no such shelter stand under the nearest doorway. 2. Evacuate the building when directed to do so. 3. If you are outside, get into the open away from buildings, trees, walls, or power lines. Sit down or lie down and brace yourself. 4. If you are in your car and it is safe to do so, pull to the side of the road away from overpasses, bridges, or power lines. 5. Try to avoid broken glass and falling objects. 6. Avoid using matches or lighters there might be a gas leak. 7. Avoid touching electrical wires which may have fallen. 8. Do NOT use the telephone except for emergencies. In the event of a FIRE 1. Upon discovery of a fire alert all other nearby personnel, your immediate supervisor, and dial Be sure to give the dispatcher the exact location of the fire. Activate fire alarm. 2. If the fire does not pose an immediate threat to safety, use the fire extinguisher, if appropriate. 3. Evacuate the building through the nearest, safe exit. 4. Give needed first aid and CPR.

If the situation permits try asking the following questions: 1. If there is a threat made to an employee, try to find out the exact nature of the threat and why. 2. If the call is a BOMB THREAT, try to find out the following: a. When is the bomb going to explode? b. Where is the bomb now? c. What kind of bomb is it? d. Why did you place the bomb? e. What is your name? f. What is your address? 3. Listen for the following clues: a. Age of caller. b. Gender. c. Accent or impediment. d. Background noise. e. Is the voice familiar? 4. Notify your immediate supervisor. 5. WARNING: Electrical circuits, even small ones, can trigger an explosive device. a. Do NOT use 2-way radios, cell phones or pagers. b. Do NOT turn electrical units on or off (lights, computers, etc ) c. Do NOT activate fire alarm.

14 BOARD OF EDUCATION SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION Mail Code FAX The Santa Clara County Board of Education is the elected governing body of the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Its seven members serve four-year terms and are elected from different areas of the county. The Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools serves as the Ex-officio Secretary to the Board of Education. The Board of Education generally meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the San Jose Room, Santa Clara County Office of Education. Closed Session may be scheduled prior to the meetings. Due to breaks in the calendar and other scheduling priorities, there may be special meetings or adjustments to board meeting dates and times.
