2 About us The Territory Wildlife Park is located 60kms south of Darwin and is situated on 400 hectares of natural bushland, which includes a variety of diverse habitats including Wetlands, Woodlands and Monsoon Forest. These natural, well established habitats provide an excellent backdrop to display an equally impressive range of native flora and fauna, making it an essential introduction to the Top End s wildlife and habitats. The Park offers school groups the opportunity to use the Park s facilities and the expertise of its guiding and zoo keeping staff, to deliver educational programs on a variety of topics and themes. We have a range of outdoor venues and exhibits that can be used as living classrooms, where students can immerse themselves in real habitats and interact with living creatures, an experience far more memorable and engaging than any textbook! SCHOOL DAY TRIPS To make the most of your class day trip, we offer 3 different habitat themed Animal Encounters. When making an online school booking, please make sure to state your preferred Animal Encounter theme. Primary school aged activity packs available on request. Day Trip Themes WOODLANDS: Crocodile, Turtle, Sawfish or Pelican. WETLANDS: Blackheaded python, Blue tongue lizard or Wallaby MONSOON FOREST: Tawny frog mouth, Green tree frog, Turtle or Carpet python. $55 per animal, per visit. PAGE 1

3 CAMP TWP PROGRAM Designed for schools and community groups, Camp TWP provides children with the opportunity to have a more hands-on experience at the park and gain skills in basic camping activities. We have 2 camp grounds: ~ Camp Calytrix is located near the Aquarium. This camp ground offers a basic bush style campground, small camp kitchen and cold bush showers. ~ NEW - Camp Woollybutts located near the main station in the Woollybutts function area. This camp offers new a abultion block with hot showers, bush tucker garden, large lawn camp grounds and an interactive education centre. Our camps are available in a number of themes and offer special activities that are not available to our day visitors. Some of our camp activities include spotlight walks, bush tucker and bush medicine talks, toad-busting activities and close-up encounters with the feathered, furred and scaly residents at the park. CAMP TWP is for: ~ Children aged 8 years and over ~ Restricted to maximum of 45 children and a minimum of 20 ~ Must have at least one supervising adult per 10 children (not including camp host) ~ Available only between the months of April and September CAMP Woollybutt TEACHERS: Park entry and camping is FREE CHILDREN: $65 per child (includes park entry) ADULTS: Parent helpers are $55 per adult (includes park entry) Camping Fees CAMP Calytrix TEACHERS: Park entry and camping is FREE CHILDREN: $50 per child (includes park entry) ADULTS: Parent helpers are $40 per adult (includes park entry) PAGE 2

5 Safety Information VEHICLE MOVEMENTS Both camp grounds are located away from our major exhibits at the park. These areas are accessed by our link road that the train travels on during the day. Please be aware that there may be a large number of pedestrians and other vehicles using this road at any given time. To ensure the safety of our visitors, we ask that groups arrive and depart together. Please check in at the Main Station on arrival. FIRE PROCEEDURES In the event of a bushfire, please assemble at the train station at the Main Station. Account for all members of your group and contact a Territory Wildlife Park staff member using the contact list provided. FIRE PIT You will find a fire pit for use in the campground. Wood will be provided for your convenience. Please do not collect wood from around the park. In the event that the fire spreads from the pit, please contact the park s Care Taker. CLEANING It is an expectation that the campground, camp kitchen and toilets are left in a clean and tidy state. If the facility needs an extra clean, a minimum charge of $100 will apply. Please clean the BBQ after use by pouring a cup of water on hot plates whilst BBQ is still hot, and wiping down with paper. BOOKINGS & CANCELLATIONS Bookings must be made at least 4 weeks prior to date of camp. If for some reason you need to cancel your booking, please allow a minimium of 2 weeks to notify us. 6 Themes MAGIC MONSOON FOREST Monsoon Forests are generally found in isolated pockets in the Top End that are often associated with natural springs. The Territory Wildlife Park has its very own pocket of naturally occurring Monsoon Forest which is fed by Berry Springs. Black Flying Foxes, Pacific Bazas and Rufous Owls are our resident Monsoon Forest inhabitants. A stroll along the boardwalk reveals the crystal clear waters of Berry Springs bubbling up in between a forest of soaring palm trees and spreading fig trees, creating a cool and inviting retreat to explore and enjoy. WICKED WOODLANDS Woodlands are the dominant habitat found in the Top End, and are home to a diverse range of plants and animals. During your visit to the park there is a good chance that you will encounter woodland animals such as Curlews, Bandicoots, Northern Quolls, Brush-tailed possums just to name a few! WILD WETLANDS The Territory Wildlife Park has a combination of natural and man-made wetland exhibits that are home to a vast array of aquatic plants and animals. Silver-leaved Paperbarks, Waterlilies and Ribbon weed are all important plants that are a source of food and shelter to our diverse collection of water-dwelling creatures. Explore and discover what happens in and around a billabong at night. Encounter our resident Crocodiles, Turtles and Whip rays to name a few! BUSHTUCKER, TOOLS AND MEDICINE The educational focus for this camp is on how various plants and animals are used as a source of food, to make tools and as medicine. 7 Itineraries School groups are asked to arrive at the park before 4pm. Teachers are to sign in at admissions and collect camp map and key before heading to camp grounds. A camp guide will escort the group to the campgrounds. School group organises camp set up, tents and dinner (if self catering) so that when the camp guide returns at 6.00pm, the group has eaten and is ready to start. CAMP ITINERARY See page 7 for pick up details for dinner if being catered for. If self catering be ready for camp activites at your campground at 6.00pm. 6.00PM Themed camp activities begin. 8.45PM Camp guide departs for the night. 7.45AM Camp guide arrives at campground. Takes group to picnic area for breakfast if pre-arranged. Breakfast from 8am to 8.20am. If not being catered for camp guide will be at camp grounds at 8.20am. 8.30AM Camp guide will arrive at campground for morning activities if not already at mainstation after breakfast. 9.00AM Camp guide farewells group. Group is free to explore park for remainder of day at their leisure. Campground and facilities must be cleaned and vacated no later than 2pm the following day, unless group has booked for more than one night. 8 Catering The Territory Wildlife Park cafe offers all camps catering for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. School groups find this to be very affordable and an effortless option during their visit. All camp catering is served in the undercover area in the picnic grounds. The camp guide will collect the Camp Caltrix group from the aquarium station at 5.10pm for dinner at 5.30pm and 7.45am for breakfast at 8am. The camp guide will collect the Camp Woollybutt group at 5.20pm for dinner at 5.30pm and 7.50am for breakfast at 8am. Dinner - $ 8.50 per person pm to 6pm BBQ Sausage, potato salad and garden salad, bread and condiments, juice and water. Lunch - $ 7.50 per person - meal time to be arranged by teacher. Hotdogs and popper juice or Sandwich (3 filling), popper and muffin. Breakfast - $6.50 per person - 8am to 8.20am Selection of cereals, toast with selection of spreads, water and juice.
