1 Contest Updates: SkillsUSA New Media Education Foundation of GA 2014 Schedule & Contest Updates State Only Contests: Each video will be submitted on USB flash drive media. Submissions must be one of the following: Quicktime file (.mov), H.264 or MPEG-2. If using Quicktime, it must be compressed using either.264 or MPEG-2 codec. Aspect Ratios: 4:3 or 16:9 Frame Rates: 24fps, 29.97fps, or 30fps. Scanning: progressive or interlaced Resolution: 480 (SD) and 720, 1080 (HD) formats are acceptable up to 30fps. Videos will be exported as files and transferred to USB thumb drive media for submission. Audio and video must be in the same file; we cannot accept submission with separate audio and video files. The file name shall include the category and school name. The only file on the USB flash drive media shall be the project submission. The project shall be submitted in a manila envelope with the category, school name and team members names printed legibly on the outside and contain: USB flash drive media; a one-page printed hard copy resume per team member; a printed copy of the script; storyboards for the project; and a written copyright permission letter from the copyright holder or a copy of the receipt for the purchase or lease of the library, for any piece of copyrighted music used. If copyrighted music is involved, the artist and recording label must be acknowledged in the credits. Failure to submit properly shall result in penalties or disqualification. USB Flash drive media will be available for return on Friday, March 22nd after 10am from the Broadcast News Production contest check-in desk in front of the Kenyan Suite. Restriction: Cell phones and tablets are strictly prohibited in the editing and preparation rooms. Violation of this will result in a 50-point penalty. Clothing: Contest Clothing required for Broadcast News Production, Digital Cinema Production, and Television Video Production as per the Technical Standards. Audio/Radio Production clothing requirement for women will be Official SkillsUSA white polo shirt with black dress skirt (knee-length) or slacks, black socks or black or skintone seamless hose, and black leather dress shoes. Any deviation from the required clothing will result in a penalty. Contestants must wear their official contest clothing to the contest orientation meeting. Failure to do so will result in a penalty. Contest Assignment: All competitors must submit a one-page hard copy resume at the contest orientation meeting. Failure to do so will result in a 10 point penalty. Resumes submitted that are more than one-page will incur a 5 point penalty. Audio/Radio Production students are to fully produce a 3-minute radio production with a 15-second intro & outro, soundbites from at least 3 interviewees, and a 30-second PSA within 5 seconds of midpoint. Penalties will be assessed for projects under or over specified time. Final production will be submitted as.wav file; script as.rtf document. Television Video Production teams must present recording media (new & unwrapped - still in its package) at the contest orientation meeting where it will be opened and marked before use. This card will be checked prior to data transfer at the start of editing time. Exception: P2 cards may be previously used but will be reformatted, erased and marked prior to contest. Music: Audio/Radio Production teams must submit their production music cd with project submission. (For definition of production music refer to note in Technical Standards. Television Video Production and Digital Cinema Production teams must submit a written copyright permission letter from the copyright holder or a copy of the receipt for the purchase or lease of the library, for each piece of music used. Documentation proving public domain for copyright free music must be submitted for each piece of music used. Refer to Invalid use of music and/or lack of documentation for use will result in a penalty. 1 of 3

2 Equipment: Teams involved in Broadcast News Production should bring their own computer and printer to print their scripts and run downs. No copier will be provided. MAC Laptops are not required to have Microsoft Excel and Word. Documents will be created in equivalent programs (ex: numbers, pages). Teams must make six copies of the script and run-down; three will be submitted for judges viewing during competition. All other contests should bring the needed equipment as per the Technical Standards. An 8GB USB flash drive will be provided to each team in Audio/Radio Production, Digital Cinema Production and Television Video Production for their project submission. Knowledge Tests: Broadcast News Production, Digital Cinema Production, and Television Video Production will take the Knowledge Tests before 5:00pm in the same room as the PDP test. Check in at the appropriate table to receive your specific knowledge test. It is up to each contestant to ensure they take the Knowledge Test. Failure to do so will result in penalty. Audio Radio will take their knowledge test in their editing room following completion of their competition. Television Video Production contestants will take their Knowledge Tests individually and teammates scores will be averaged together. Schedule: All teams involved in Audio/Radio Production, Broadcast News Production, Digital Cinema Production, and Television Video Production are required to abide by and attend the contest orientations, etc. as listed. Failure to attend the meetings listed on the schedule will result in a penalty or disqualification as per the Technical Standards and General Regulations. 2 of 3
