We have returned to beautiful San Diego for our 25th celebration, and are excited you are here! In this setting, it s clear to see why boating is a preferred activity in Southern California, and it s also a reflection of the vitality of the marine lending and related services industries. We have put together a great group of speakers and industry experts this year to cover many important and timely topics, and built-in a generous amount of time for the always-important networking and just plain having fun! 6 Speaker 2004 Bios ROB DOUGLAS Robert Douglas is the CEO of PrivacyToday. com. Rob assists businesses; governments, legislators, and the media to understand and implement appropriate privacy and information security policies, strategies, and defenses in today s fast changing information security environment. Prior to founding PrivacyToday, Rob was a Washington, DC private detective with more than 17 years experience in complex criminal investigations. In 1997 Rob investigated information brokers and identity thieves who steal and sell the personal financial information of Americans. Rob testified before the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Banking and Financial Services, during the July 28, 1998 Hearing On The Use Of Deceptive Practices To Gain Access To Personal Financial Information. Rob exposed the use of identity theft and fraud by identity thieves and information brokers to penetrate banking securing systems. That hearing resulted in passage of the Financial Information Privacy Act, which was incorporated into the Gramm-Leach-Bliley financial modernization bill signed into law in November of In 2000, Rob authored a training manual for the American Bankers Association titled Spotting and Avoiding Pretext Calls. In 2001, Rob authored and published Privacy and Customer Information Security An Employee Awareness Guide. Rob continues to monitor the methods of those who would attempt to penetrate our nation s financial institutions and violate the privacy of those who entrust their assets to those institutions. Additionally, Rob assists financial institutions in developing, implementing and auditing education and training programs designed to prevent the illegal access of customer s financial information. douglasinvestigations@msn.com CHUCK HAWLEY Chuck Hawley is a life-long sailor, having grown up on the California Coast. He has sailed approximately 40,000 miles on vessels ranging from ultralight sleds to single-handed sailboats to the maxicatamaran PlayStation. Voyages of interest include two singlehanded passages to Hawaii, three crewed transpacific races, and a World Record attempt on the west to east Transatlantic record on PlayStation. While enjoying fast passages, he understands the importance of having functional, easily-repaired electrical, water, engine, and fuel systems so that each voyage can be completed successfully without outside help. Chuck is a nationally known speaker on marine safety, and is one of five moderators of the US Sailing Safety at Sea Seminars for the last ten years. He has done extensive research into crew overboard recovery, life raft design, anchor design, and storm tactics, and has moderated seminars prior to the Newport-Bermuda, Transpac, and West Marine Pacific Cup Races. Chuck has served as Commodore of the Singlehanded Sailing Society in San Francisco (1980), the Santa Cruz Yacht Club (1992), and on the board of the Pacific Cup Yacht Club (2000). He also serves on the US Sailing Safety at Sea Committee and the American Boat and Yacht Council Technical Board. Chuck has worked for West Marine for 20 years, and is responsible for the West Advisor articles that appear in West Marine s catalogs. He is also Vice President of Product Development. He lives in Santa Cruz, CA with his wife Susan and four daughters, and currently owns a Viper sailboat and a Zodiac 20 RIB. chuckh@westmarine.com ARVIND KRISHNASWAMI Arvind Krishnaswami, Managing Consultant, has been with Equifax Decision Solutions for over 8 years. Arvind holds a MS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX. He has consulted on the design and development of several successful generic and custom products for Equifax. He currently leads a team of consultants responsible for designing, developing, and providing advanced analytical solutions for a range of industries including financial services, telecommunication, mortgage, insurance, and brokerage, healthcare and leasing industries. arvind.krishnaswami@equifax.com DR. ED MAHONEY Dr. Ed Mahoney is a Professor and Extension Specialist at Michigan State University. Ed has a PhD in Natural Resource Economics and Marketing from Michigan State University. He has worked with the boating industry since 1983 and has conducted numerous boating studies including market analyses, economic impact, impacts of low water, models of boater behavior and choices. He is currently the Co-Director of the National Marine Research Center at Michigan State University which is a partnership with NMMA and also MSU s Recreational Boating Scholarship Program. He is currently (in cooperation with Jim Pertu, NMMA) enlisting a National Boater Panel, conducting the Marine Business Leaders Outlook, and performing a national study for the Coast Guard. Ed is a speaker at many conferences every year in the U.S. and Canada. Ed has authored many reports about various recreational boating topics and is a close advisor of national and state boating organizations and agencies. In addition to recreational boating Ed provides marketing and management assistance to several other recreational industries including RVs, campgrounds, casino gaming, and B&Bs. Ed will give an update on NMBA s Annual Member Survey 2002, and the 2003 National Boater Panel. He will also talk about the implications for the NMBA Marine Business Leaders Outlook, Industry Trends and NMBA s new and improved Annual Survey. mahoney@carrs.msu.edu 6

7 Speaker 2004 Bios GINA MARTIN Ms. Martin joined Wachovia in 1998 and is an economist with Wachovia Securities. Her primary responsibilities include providing commentary and research on financial markets and the national economy, most specifically focused on housing starts, construction spending, and inventories. She also provides economic perspective on the telecommunications, information technology, retail, consumer products, and business and consumer services industries. The Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, and CNBC, among others, have featured her work. Ms. Martin holds a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from the University of Florida and is currently a candidate in the CFA program. gina.martin@wachovia.com MARTIN O CONNOR Martin O Connor is Vice President of New Solutions, responsible for the identification and development of new analytical and software solutions in the financial services arena. The focus is integrating advanced modeling techniques, sophisticated decisioning platforms and consulting, to ensure the attainment of business objectives in new and creative ways. Martin joined the North American division of Experian in Prior to that, he directed the Research and Development- Bureau business unit in the U.K. for two years and managed the consulting unit for the banking sector of Experian. During this time, he developed and implemented application and behavioral scoring systems for several large U.K. banks and building societies. Before joining Experian, Martin taught statistics and economics at New York State University at Albany for 4 years. Martin holds a Masters Degrees in Statistics and Economics from New York State University at Albany, and a Bachelor s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Wales. gail.wetzel@experianscorex.com DON PARKHURST With 25 years of banking and marine lending experience, Don is currently Senior Vice President and Business Line Manager of SunTrust Bank s Marine & RV Finance Division in Fairfax, VA. He previously headed up predecessor, Crestar Bank s, marine division from 1993 to Prior to that he was head of consumer lending for Continental Federal Savings Bank. Parkhurst earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Virginia and graduated from the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management also at the University of Virginia. Don is currently President of the National Marine Bankers Association and has served as a director since He is also Treasurer of the Washington Area Marine Dealers Association and was previously President of the International Credit Association of Greater Washington. Don is an avid boater, although his boat has not seen water for 3 years. don.parkhurst@suntrust.com GEORGE PITA George is First Vice President in the Consumer Credit Risk Management Group of SunTrust Bank supporting Dealer Financial Services, Marine Lending, Student Lending and Collections. His area is mainly responsible for determining and quantifying appropriate risks and opportunities using various attributes in production and portfolio. Additionally, his area has built several models, including loss forecasting and attrition models, and assists in credit policy and business line strategy development. Before joining SunTrust Bank in 1997, George managed client projects in the Decision Solutions Group at Equifax. He was also a manager within the Finance Group at Equifax prior to joining Decision Solu- tions. Sullivan has served as Senior Vice President - Marketing of Genmar since November From May 1995 to November 1996, Sullivan served as Vice President and General manager of Genmar s Sam s Club Boat Buying Program. From June 1990 to May 1995, Sullivan served in various capacities at an indirect subsidiary of Genmar, Wellcraft Marine Corp., most recently as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Planning. Prior to joining Genmar, Sullivan served as Vice President of Marketing and Communications of Brunswick s U.S. Marine Division. gsullivan@genmar.com JASON WRIGHT As Director of Analytic Decision Services for TransUnion, Jason Wright is responsible for the analytical support functions for TransUnion s predictive scoring models. In this position, Mr. Wright s duties include managing teams of professionals focused on consulting with financial services companies to perform analysis and give guidance regarding the use of statistical modeling for the purposes of prospecting new credit customers and management of existing credit relationships. He is also responsible for ideation and development of new products that enhance the credit decisioning processes for domestic and international lenders. Prior to joining TransUnion in 1994, Mr. Wright spent three years with Ford Motor Credit Company, an auto finance company. Most recently, he served as credit analyst, approving retail and commercial loans and analyzing dealer financial statements for the company s branch network. Mr. Wright s background at Ford Motor Credit also included experience in dealer relations and collections supervision. Mr. Wright is a member of the Society of Certified Credit Executives.
