1 Exporting/Importing Certificates with Adobe Acrobat This tutorial was designed to help you learn how to export and import digital signature certificates with Adobe Acrobat so that you can verify the identity of signers on PDFs. Once validated, you can trust the signatures on the signed forms you receive were signed by their intended sources. Adobe Acrobat must be installed to complete this tutorial. Exporting Certificates 1. Open Adobe Acrobat. For this tutorial, the example images will be taken from Adobe Acrobat X Pro. 2. Click on Tools. On the right hand side of the screen near the top of the page, there is a Tools button. After clicking this button, you should see the following on your screen:

2 3. Click on Sign & Certify. On the right hand side of the screen should be a navigation bar with links. Click on Sign & Certify. 4. Click on More Sign & Certify. A sub-menu will pop down. In this sub-menu, click on More Sign & Certify. It will be near the bottom of the list. 5. Click on Security Settings.... Another sub-menu will pop out. In this sub-menu, click on Security Settings.... After clicking, a Security Settings window will appear. 6. Click on Digital IDs. on the left hand side of the window, there will be a list of options. Select Digital IDs from the list.

3 7. Click on Export. 8. Select Save the data to a file option in Export Options. A Data Exchange File - Export Option window will appear. Near the bottom of this window, there will be 2 options. Select the Save the data to a file option and click Next. 9. Save the file. A Export Data As... window will appear. Depending on whether you are a SPA administrator or researcher, you have the following options: Save the file in J:\Everyone\Acrobat FDF Data Exchange Files. If you are a SPA administrator, click on My computer -> Onyx\Spa (J:) -> Everyone -> Acrobat FDF Data Exchange Files. Save the file to your computer. If you are not a SPA administrator, then please choose a directory on your computer to save the file. Take note to remember where you saved this file as this file is what you will circulate for other people to validate your signature on digital forms. Send the file to your SPA administrator. SPA maintains a collection of digital signatures to validate the digital forms it processes. Please your digital certificate to your SPA administrator or to proposal@spa.msstate.edu. Importing Certificates 1. Open Adobe Acrobat. For this tutorial, the example images will be taken from Adobe Acrobat X Pro.

4 2. Click on Tools. On the right hand side of the screen near the top of the page, there is a Tools button. After clicking this button, you should see the following on your screen: 3. Click on Sign & Certify. On the right hand side of the screen should be a navigation bar with links. Click on Sign & Certify. 4. Click on More Sign & Certify. A sub-menu will pop down. In this sub-menu, click on More Sign & Certify. It will be near the bottom of the list. 5. Click on Manage Trusted Identities.... Another sub-menu will pop out. In this sub-menu, click on Manage Trusted Identities.... After clicking, a Manage Trusted Identities window will appear.

5 6. Click on Add Contacts.... Click the Add Contacts... button on the right hand side of the window. 7. Click on Brows.... Click the Browse... button on the right hand side of the window. 8. Locate the certificate you wish to import. Click on My computer -> Onyx\Spa (J:) -> Everyone -> Acrobat FDF Data Exchange Files -> <the file you wish to import>. 9. Select the correct contact in the Contacts box. Click on the correct contact that you wish to import in the top box named Contacts. This will cause the bottom box to populate with data. After this step, your screen should look similar to the following:

6 10. Select the correct certificate in the Certificates box. Click on the correct certificate that you wish to import in the bottom box named Certificates. This will cause the menu buttons on the bottom-right hand side of the window to become active. 11. Click on Trust.... Click on the Trust... button on the bottom-right hand side of the window. After clicking this button, an Import Contact Settings window will appear. 12. Select Use this certificate as a trusted root. 13. Click on OK. 14. Click on Import. Click on the Import button in the bottom-right hand side of the window. After clicking this button, an Import Complete window will appear. 15. Click on OK. Clicking this button will finish the import process for the contact you selected.
