2 FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS Developing Your Students Employability Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are under increasing pressure to provide their students with an optimal basis for their professional life Nowadays, students and graduates face a hard competition for jobs. Therefore, they choose their Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) assessing which environment offers them the best foundation to have good job opportunities after graduation. Universities have recognised this challenge but find it hard to respond to this problem and to implement tools which can solve it. Besides that, it has become crucial for HEIs to deliver solutions to these challenges as competition between universities is rising worldwide while government funding is decreasing. HEIs that are not developing professionals prepared for the labour market might face the danger of an existential crisis. At the same time, universities have to fulfil strict governmental guidelines for quality of teaching. All these different and sometimes even colliding requirements pose a challenge for HEIs career services. Implement career service activities which really help your students to develop their future career This seminar will offer the participants a broad overview of measures and tools which HEIs can implement in order to boost their students employability and their cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. In doing so it will help them answer the following questions: What requirements do companies pose for graduates? How to establish reliable relations between companies and universities to maintain both sides needs are met? Since the personal skills of present-day students are not shaped by their curriculum only, the seminar will cover further activities universities and their career services could and should provide their students with in order to guarantee their success later in life. Moreover, it will take into account the opportunities databases can offer to support all measures and all stages of a student s study career. All these issues will be addressed by employability experts from HEIs from all over Europe. Who is this seminar for? Heads of Departments, Coordinators, Career Advisors, Career Counselors, Project Leaders of Universities in the following departments Career Service Centers Student Services Student Development Academic Affairs Academic Services International Affairs Departments in charge of cooperation with companies Alumni Relations Curriculum Departments External Communication Mentoring and Coaching As well as staff responsible for higher education issues from National and regional ministries dealing with higher education, sciences and youth employment National and regional employment offices Agencies promoting national education efforts Companies and associations Valuable insights into career services across Europe. 2
