3 3 Hay Group s Job Evaluation Manager (JEM) is a web-enabled application that facilitates the consistent levelling or ranking of jobs across different users, business units and geographic locations. JEM delivers benefits that are felt across the organization. Built on the foundation of Hay Group s core job measurement processes, JEM supports tailor-made solutions to meet specific organizational needs. It helps organizations to: access definitive records from a single location, enhancing consistency, saving time and avoiding duplication of effort ensure sound grading and reward governance in all parts of the organization make links between jobs and job size, capability, succession planning and talent management provide the basis for consistent and fair compensation across the entire organization involve managers and employees throughout the business in the job evaluation process, as appropriate deploy job evaluation resources more effectively, outsourcing the work to Hay Group if appropriate
4 Why JEM For 60 years, Hay Group consultants have worked with thousands of organizations across multiple sectors in the measurement of work and the design of compensation structures. We guide our clients throughout the process, from job analysis through job evaluation to salary report generation. JEM brings the power of the Internet to all stages of the work measurement process. It differs from other online solutions in that it digitally enables both the collection of job information and the use of a set of job evaluation tools designed to meet specific organizational requirements. By supporting tailored solutions, the use of organization-wide benchmark reference jobs and job analysis rather than job matching, JEM facilitates an insightful and comprehensive approach. JEM serves as an information repository by storing current and historical job documentation, evaluation histories and their supporting rationales. JEM is particularly appropriate for larger, more complex organizations that operate in multiple locations. Because JEM is an online solution, it provides a centralized database and a comprehensive search function that can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere in the world. This improves consistency in the evaluation process and the application of organization-wide reward strategies. Access rights and a secure workflow management process allow human resource professionals, managers as well as employees to view and if appropriate, modify only the data relevant to them. As JEM is hosted by Hay Group, access to our consulting network and the JEM support team is readily available. We also provide staff outsourced services upon request. PayNet JEM s job evaluation method also underpins PayNet, Hay Group s reward information system. Job grades or points contained in JEM can be used to access PayNet compensation survey data. Evaluation lists or reports can be exported from JEM either to a client s system or to PayNet. By combining JEM and PayNet, organizations can manage the consistency and competitiveness of compensation arrangements on a local, regional or global basis.
5 5 How it Works JEM s structure and modules. JEM provides a configurable platform to manage the collection, storage and reporting of job information and job evaluations. JEM is available in multiple languages. The modules streamline the evaluation process and maintain up-to-date information, enabling you to: generate and submit job information/job descriptions online evaluate jobs, using on-screen Guide Charts or related methods maintain and interrogate job information and job evaluation records use notification to manage the creation and approval of job descriptions and evaluations generate a wide range of reports from the database export data to other applications for salary modeling and organization analysis. Hay Group supports JEM users by: configuring JEM to meet specific client requirements with, for example, organization specific evaluation methods, tailored job documentation questionnaires and customized grades, divisions as well as locations uploading current evaluation and job description records and related organization charts managing security and data back up providing training and helpdesk support for super users making automatic, periodic application upgrades providing consulting expertise as needed from offices in over 45 countries around the globe.
6 Using JEM There are three different approaches to using JEM. The application can be accessed via: direct entry of data on the main Job overview screen the use of wizards in the What would you like to do today? section the Pending tasks section that displays tasks assigned if JEM s workflow management capability is used. 8 JEM fees and business arrangements Installation and annual subscription fees depend on the number of employees in the organization. The installation fee occurs in the first year only; the subscription fee is charged in year one and annually thereafter. Licence agreements, conditions and warranty terms are set out in the subscriber agreement.
