4 About LAWASIA As the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific, LAWASIA brings together under a regional umbrella, the peak bodies representing lawyers of the ESCAP region and individual members of the legal community from around the world. In this capacity, LAWASIA has, over almost fif ty years, operated as a platform to promote cross-jurisdictional exchanges of legal information and education, as a voice of the legal profession and as a conduit for encouraging adherence to commonly shared principles of rule of law, high standards in legal practice and protection of human rights. The LAWASIA annual conference of fers a stage to highlight these objectives, and attendance at this event ensures that a regional contextualisation of the law and of legal practice can be shared to the benefit of all. Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific Organised in conjunction with the LAWASIA Judicial Section, the biennial Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific will proceed in 2015, in Sydney, in parallel with the 28th LAWASIA Conference. LAWASIA is privileged that the Chief Justices will attend aspects of its conference program and of fers its warmest welcome. 4 Cross-border Law and Practice in the Asia-Pacific
5 Accommodation The conference is being held at the Hilton Hotel, Sydney and there are a limited number of rooms available to conference delegates at a special rate. Alternatively there are a number of hotels within close walking distance to the conference venue of fering special rates for LAWASIA delegates. Please visit the conference website for further details: Visas Visa application and travel arrangements are the sole responsibility of the participant. LAWASIA strongly recommends that delegates contact the Australian consular services in their countries for information. It is emphasised that this process should be commenced early. The LAWASIA secretariat is unable to provide visa advice or assistance. Should a letter of invitation or other confirmation of conference registration be required, please advise the secretariat by lawasia@lawasia.asn.au or phone: Conference confirmation to support visa application will not be issued until full registration and payment is received and processed by the LAWASIA secretariat. Hotels Delegates should make their own accommodation reservations directly with hotels. The LAWASIA secretariat regrets that it is unable to accept hotel reservations. Details of suggested hotels are available on the conference website. Delegates are advised to make reservations as early as possible. Insurance Participants, accompanying persons and guests are advised to af fect their own insurance to cover all risks including (but not limited to) costs of travel, accommodation, conference registration, injury/death, health and medical expenses, personal property and all other risks. LAWASIA and the conference will not be held liable for claims under any circumstances. This includes participation in any pre & post touring and activities undertaken by delegates and accompanying persons. Cancellation All cancellations must be notified to the LAWASIA secretariat in writing by , fax or mail. Where a refund of registration fees is sought due to non-attendance, this will be considered on notification to the LAWASIA secretariat by , fax or mail. Refunds, less a $100 administration fee, will only be considered af ter the conference has been concluded and where extenuating circumstances exist. No refunds will be issued on site. Where a registered delegate is unable to attend, a replacement delegate may be nominated without charge up to 30 October 2015 on advice to the LAWASIA secretariat in writing by , fax or mail. Af ter this date, a fee of AU$20 will apply for any transfer of registration to another delegate. Refund of accommodation and tour deposits and/ or prepayment is at the discretion of the hotel/operating company. Force majeure Neither LAWASIA nor the conference shall be liable for delay or failure to organise the conference if such delay is due to fire, typhoon, cyclone, earthquake, flood, strike, labour dispute, war, government order, riot, revolution, pandemic or any other cause beyond their reasonable control. Registration entitlements Registration can be completed online at and by mail or fax copy registration forms. Registration should be considered finalised when you receive receipt of payment and confirmation in writing. Social function access for non-delegates Access to social functions is available for an additional fee for accompanying persons. We regret that tickets will not be available for purchase on site. Additional costs All other costs including but not limited to accommodation, airfares, visa fees, transportation and meals except those included under registration entitlements shall be borne by the participant (including speakers). Neither LAWASIA nor the conference will be held liable for any costs under any circumstances.
