1 ANNEX INFORMATION ON THE LEAD AWARDS/TAC PROJECTS 1 Container Depot Association (Singapore) (CDAS) Mr Sharafdeen s/o A R, President Mr Lim Kian Chin, Deputy-President Sector: Container depot transportation Membership: 70 Development and implementation of Container Management System (CMS) CDAS aims to leverage new technologies to improve the efficiency and communication work processes for depot and transport operators. The Container Management System (CMS) will be a web-based information and visibility portal for the container depot and transport/ haulier community to manage the release and return of containers effectively. Features that help to drive productivity include truck bookings, automated gate process, real-time information on pickups/ return time slot and real-time broadcast alerts via SMS and . With its implementation, redundant queues and jams at depots can be cut down drastically. Time saved from queues can be converted into additional trips for the transport companies. Productivity gains can be achieved through efficient information transfer and real-time communication for companies along the container supply chain activities the depot operator, the transport operator, the container terminal and the customer/ shippers. 2 REDAS will assist construction value chain companies to improve operations efficiency by creating awareness of new capabilities, technology adoption and manpower upgrading. REDAS will also work with experts to develop new real estate training courses such as supply chain management to enhance work-flow process knowledge. Seminars and workshops on new management concepts and lean methodology will be organised to help value chain companies stay competitive. Provide thought leadership to ensure sustainable growth Internationally renowned real estate leaders, economists and academia will be invited to share expert opinions on future industry trends and sustainability in the global real estate environment. 3 Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Mr Teo Siong Seng, Chairman Mr Gautam Banerjee, Vice Chairman Mr Shabbir H Hassanbhai, Vice Chairman Mr Tang Kin Fei, Vice Chairman Sector: Diverse sectors Membership: 21,000 Project 1: Promoting Singapore professional services through AccessAsia@Singapore Programme Growing a pool of professional services firms and enhancing market connections SBF will work closely with IE Singapore to grow the professional services community in sectors such as business & management consulting and business process outsource services. Through outreach platforms like trade shows and Singapore Day seminars, SBF will promote the Singapore professional services community as an essential partner for global companies to internationalise and access Asia. Profile Singapore professional services firms to the international business community SBF proposes a collective branding for the industry to be effectively marketed as a professional services hub. With the support from IE and other government agencies, SBF will conduct branding activities in China, Europe and Asia. To deepen understanding of the key industry competencies, SBF will develop a new professional services directory, asset mapping research and enhance the AccessAsia@Singapore brochures to include case studies, testimonies and industry strengths Project 2: SBF s increased engagement in the Philippines Organising annual Philippine-Singapore Business Council (PSBC) forums The PSBC is a business platform to promote economic relations between private sectors of both countries. Organised by SBF and the Makati Business Club (MBC) in the Philippines, these annual forums feature business matching sessions and sharing by prominent businessmen and government agencies on potential business and collaboration opportunities. 3 Making connections and increasing market knowledge SBF aims to deepen SMEs in-market engagement in the Philippines by widening its geographical reach and industry coverage. Through business missions and high-level networking events, SBF will strengthen the business partnership between Singapore and the Philippines businesses in regions like Manila, Cebu and Davao. 4 Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) Mr Thomas Chua Kee Seng, PBM, President Mr Teo Siong Seng, PBM, Immediate Past President Mr Zhong Sheng Jian, Vice-President Mr Ng San Tiong, BBM, Vice-President Mr Lau Tai San, Vice-President Sector: All trades and industries including manufacturing, services and construction Membership: 151 trade associations and 4,000 corporate entities Project 1: IE-SCCCI Singapore Enterprise Centre (ISSEC) China is a key destination for Singapore SMEs, as a growing market and an alternative production base. With limited resources, SMEs would require market guidance for their venture into China. ISSEC is a partnership between IE Singapore and SCCCI as a one-stop centre to help SMEs venture into China with a clear suite of services which include: - One-to-one advisory on business set-up in China - Guidance on import/ export regulations and labour laws - Understanding of the China market via seminars, networking sessions and trade missions - Sharing market information and business leads Project 2: Economic Research Unit Establishing the Economic Research Unit The Economic Research Unit will drive research projects pertaining to SMEs and the Singapore business community, with the support of subject matter experts and government agencies. Overseas study trips will also be organised to obtain first-hand insights into SME topics and industry issues. The initiatives that the Unit would embark on include: i) Broad-based SME surveys SCCCI will focus on key areas of government s concern, such as manpower, productivity and internationalisation. These surveys will provide feedback and recommendations to the government. ii) In-depth research on challenges of SMEs and industry sectors SCCCI will partner its members, including trade association members and government agencies, to conduct research on specific industry issues. The research outcome will provide feedback and tailored recommendations for government spolicy-making and new initiatives. Page 3 of 6
4 iii) Organise sharing platforms on research findings The Unit will share its research outcomes with the business community through publications roundtables and conferences. 5 Singapore Food Manufacturers Association (SFMA) Mr Thomas Pek, PBM, President Mr Wong Mong Hong, Immediate Past President, Chairman, LEAD Coordinating Committee Mr Jimmy Soh, Deputy President Mr David Tan, Vice President Mr Tan Eng Lai, Vice President Mr Richard Wong, Vice President Sector: Food manufacturing Membership: 343 Tasty Singapore Food Product Centre Anchor Singapore food companies presence in China through the Tasty Singapore Food Product Centre SFMA aims to band together Singapore s food manufacturers to establish a presence in China through the Tasty Singapore Food Product Centre. This is a one-stop platform for SMEs to set up physical product presence in China to reach out to Chinese buyers and retail customers, by testing the market with minimum risk through economics of scale. This helps to profile Singapore s F&B industry and facilitate Singapore food manufacturing SMEs with interest to break into/ expand in the China market. Build Singapore manufacturers competitiveness in China by deepening their understanding of the market and enhancing their brand presence SFMA Export Club will organise a combination of promotion and capability development activities to project stronger industry branding and help companies entrench product presence in China. 5 This initiative is significant in helping SMCCI understand the characteristics of Malay/ Muslim Businesses, challenges faced and the type of assistance required to support their businesses. SMCCI can then identify the possible areas of intervention and strengthen support for its members. Business 101 Programme SMCCI aims to assist young start-ups and aspiring entrepreneurs to acquire basic business know-how and increase performance through theory and practical modules. SMCCI will work with SME to equip members with knowledge of revenue generation, growth financing, cost management and strategic marketing. Sustainability and Internationalisation: Malay/ Muslim Business Conference (MMBC) MMBC aims to drive growth and competitiveness among the Malay/ Muslim businesses by providing a platform to learn best practices, gain market insights and create networking opportunities. MMBC will also focus on gearing up local SMEs towards potential growth opportunities stemming from the ASEAN Economic Community Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) Mr George Huang, PBM, DSM, President Mr Douglas Foo, BBM, Deputy President Dr Moh Chong Tau, PBM, Honorary Secretary Mr Philip Lee, Honorary Treasurer Dr Ahmad Magad, JP, Vice President Mr Simon Li, Vice President Mr Low Beng Tin, BBM, Vice President Sector: Manufacturing Membership: 3,000 Increasing export capabilities for Singapore s food and beverage industry through Working-in-Partnership (WIP) & Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) 2014 Working-in-Partnership (WIP) The WIP programme is a one-stop platform to introduce multiple Singapore food products to overseas buyers. Under the guidance of an in-market anchor partner, Singapore companies can make inroads to new markets by having its products listed with overseas supermarkets. Companies can enter direct distribution channels by leveraging on the experience and competency of the anchor partner, thus eliminating the middleman. Participating companies are able to enjoy economies of scale from shared resources, minimise risks and earn better marketing mileage from industry-specific branding events like Tasty Singapore. Food & Hotel Asia (FHA) 2014 FHA has over 35 years of track record as the leading premier food and beverage trade fair in Asia. This year, SMF has successfully led a group of 75 Singapore F&B exhibitors to meet with strategic trade buyers and consumers from both core and emerging markets. SMF also initiated a series of comprehensive programmes to showcase the Singapore s food industry. This included a Hosted Buyer's programme where 139 buyers from 79 Page 5 of 6
6 companies across 24 countries were invited to business matching meetings with Singapore exhibitors. To add vibrancy and dimension to the trade show, more enhanced marketing and advertising efforts such as the promotion of Singapore Tasty Food branding and networking reception were incorporated to promote the local food industry to overseas buyers. 8 Textile & Fashion Federation (TaFf) Mr Mark Lee, President Mr Wilson Teo, Vice President of Membership, Staff Welfare and General Affairs Mr Benny Pua, Vice President of International Affairs Ms Carolyn Kan, Vice President of Marketing and Communications Ms Felicia Gan, Vice President of External Affairs Mr David Wang, Vice President of Education & Training Ms Elim Chew, Vice President of Special Events and Sponsorship Ms Chiang Loo Fern, Vice President of Finance and Audit Sector: Textile and apparel Membership: 193 Internationalisation of Singapore designer brands Build capabilities of Singapore designer brands for overseas markets To strengthen and promote Singapore s design capabilities, TaFf will work with fashion and business coaches to provide workshops and 1-to-1 coaching to better equip members with skills to develop market-focused business strategies and competencies. Creation of Singapore designer brand showcase To improve companies market access, TaFf aims to create specially curated Singapore designer brand showcase platforms (including runway platforms and pop-up shops), buyer-matching programmes and post-showcase follow-ups in key markets like New York, Paris and Seoul. Influential buyers and media will also be invited to the showcase of Singapore designer brands. Differentiate through materials innovation and creative partnerships TaFf seeks to help the industry to develop creative concepts and technology/ material innovation through partnerships with different lifestyle and technology businesses. This encourages cross-fertilisation of ideas and creative partnerships with textile and apparel companies along the apparel value chain to enhance Singapore s position as a key fashion capital in Asia. Customised branding, marketing and PR TaFf will be employing focused in-market PR/ branding, social media and digital marketing strategies to elevate a collective Singapore designer brand presence in key overseas markets. These strategies aim to articulate the appropriate brand attributes of Singapore design creatively at industry showcases and events. Page 6 of 6
