Hospitalist Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in inpatient medicine and devote 100% of their time to caring for hospitalized patients. They manage all aspects of the patient s hospital stay, including arranging consultations with specialists, ordering tests, treatments and medications. Upon discharge, the patient returns to the care of their physician, who receives a copy of the patient s discharge summary.
