5 Oncology Surgical Services Surgical Oncology Surgical oncology is a specialized area that engages surgeons in the care and management of cancer as a coequal partner with medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. This multispecialty approach combines advanced surgical care with appropriate therapies, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and ablative therapy. Robotic Surgery: The da Vinci Si HD Surgical System West Florida Hospital utilizes the da Vinci Si HD Surgical System, the latest evolution in robotics technology. The da Vinci System provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, enabling surgeons to operate with unmatched precision and control using only a few small incisions. Surgeons at West Florida Hospital use the da Vinci System to treat various types of cancer, including prostate and gynecologic. The oncological surgeon performs local tumor excision, regional lymph node removal, the handling of cancer recurrence and in some cases, the surgical resection of metastases from the primary tumor.
