advantages of metal Global construction is being driven by client aspiration and government legislation to provide buildings that have a minimum impact upon our environment. This includes every aspect of the building from design, to construction, waste management, end of life and beyond. SAS Architectural Metalwork aspires to meet these demands through the delivery of sustainable solutions that are considered at every point in the design and manufacturing process to meet our client s expectations. Through better design, responsible sourcing of materials and innovative manufacturing techniques, we are able to provide our clients with solutions that help their buildings to achieve suitable ratings under schemes such as BREEAM, LEED, SKA, Greenstar and Estidata. A key design and construction consideration for any building is its whole life costing. There are many factors that have to be taken into account including maintenance, repair, refurbishment, waste, energy usage, demolition and disposal. SAS International, in conjunction with a recognised quantity surveying practice, has carried out research into the overall costs of a metal product throughout its expected life cycle. The report highlighted the significant capital cost benefits in the context of the whole life costs of building. This exercise was based on a 20-year lifespan and projected that real cost savings of some 47% are achievable using SAS Architectural Metalwork products compared with non-metal alternatives. In addition, the industry consensus was that non-metal products would be considered unserviceable after a period of years. 04

SAS International is totally committed to the provision of enhanced value to our clients throughout product specification, design, manufacture and installation. Whether this be through the gauge of metal, the thickness of coating used or final surface performance, we strive to ensure that our products exceed the market standard in performance, aesthetics and durability. To this end, SAS paint coatings have a year product guarantee and our quality control procedures ensure consistency of performance across all our products. As a business we have taken the strategic decision to focus upon metal products as a way of achieving the highest performance and sustainability standards demanded by today s modern methods of construction. The use of steel provides many benefits over comparable materials during the lifecycle of a product. For example, the manufacture and use of steel in construction sets a very high standard in the reduction of waste. Metal waste generated during manufacture and during onsite installation is recycled, resulting in no waste to landfill. In addition, iron and steel making by-products, such as blast-furnace slag, can be used by the wider construction industry for a range of products including road stone and lightweight aggregate. In fact, steel manufacturing CO ² emissions have been halved globally since the 1960s. Steel is also a unique product in recycling terms; its properties remain unchanged no matter how many times it is recycled and thus it can be recycled repeatedly without deterioration of product quality. Steel Facts Steel is the most recycled material in the world, with an estimated 459 million tonnes being recycled in 2006, an equivalent of 180 Eiffel Towers every day. All new steel could be made from recycled steel (scrap). However, the increasing demand for steel, which is 50% greater today than it was 10 years ago, and the long life of products made from steel, delays its availability as scrap. Worldwide recycling of steel is over 80%, in the UK 94% of steel used in construction is recovered. advantages of metal 05

With an in-depth knowledge in bespoke design, our technical team has the ability to manufacture a wide range of architectural metalwork including Column Casings, Bulkheads, Service Binnacles, Spandrel Panels, Curved Linear Grilles, Solar Shading, Reflectors and other associated metalwork. Off site Prefabrication Supply Where possible, SAS International will recommend the prefabrication of our products off site. The ability to prefabricate products and systems under factory-controlled conditions allows us to ensure better quality-control and compliance to tolerances and other performance criteria. material and production efficiencies, whilst also monitoring and ensuring quality control. Where possible we endeavour to offer added value options to our clients and our off site assembly and prefabrication service certainly delivers this and many other benefits, including the ability to offer fixed production and delivery lead-times that provide more certainty in construction programmes and a reduction in site costs and storage. Reducing lead-times, improving quality and safer working are core drivers in the SAS International business. Prefabrication of products and services helps us to meet these aspirations and improve the delivery of our products. Most processes are fully or semi-automated, with advanced computer design and manufacturing software used to improve 10

Wherever possible we look to provide value engineering; through the design of products, manufacturing processes that reduce waste, providing durable products and solutions to maximising efficiencies and helping to support on-site installation. Our involvement right from design stage means we can provide for ease of buildability and installation in the fit-out process. Most Architectural Metalwork products are prefabricated off-site and built to meet specific project lead times. This off-site build, in factory conditions, also helps to increase build certainty and quality, whilst reducing costs, storage and accidental damage on-site. We understand that on-site storage may be limited or expensive, and that the reduction of site waste levels is a key consideration for many clients. Working closely to support the build team, we discuss with the client and design team their preferred route to on-site installation. Working direct with a main contractor we ensure the installation process is managed by an SAS Project Manager supported by our manufacturing team. Where the design and performance of energy efficient Chilled Beams or Ceilings or Integrated Service Modules is required to meet stringent architectural, mechanical or electrical demands, SAS s own project managers can co-ordinate project teams to ensure best of class installation. Design, supply and install is fast becoming the popular option for project teams and clients. Construction programmes are demanding. Specifications and logistics are complex and the delivery of a quality fit-out, on time and on budget is essential on all projects. By using one company who take ownership from the design stage and are answerable till handover to the end-user has significant benefits. SAS Project Management : install 11

Consideration should be given to: Building Module Size the shape of a building can impact upon the design of Architectural Metalwork. Products can be manufactured to work with standard or non-standard module sizes. Integration of Services a number of building services can be integrated in the design process of a building. Architectural Metalwork can facilitate this integration and therefore is important to consider this when specifying. See page 21. Integration of Other Building Elements or Products consideration should be given to how Architectural Metalwork integrates with the surrounding building elements, such as walls, ceilings and columns, to complement and enhance the building design. Room Comfort Products if a project needs to incorporate air conditioning or air handling Architectural Metalwork products can allow the integration of chilled elements within the design, removing the need for separate modular heating and cooling units. See page 75. Finish products are usually supplied with an electrostatic applied polyester powder finish, to exterior quality ISO 9227 for steel and aluminium. This is tested to satisfy a 1000 hour salt spray performance test for aluminium and 500 hours for steel. It can be coloured, from a wide spectrum of RAL and non-ral colours, finished with a clear lacquer, have a textured finish or coated with anti-bacterial or anti-graffiti finishes. See page 25 for finish options. Apertures as part of the design process, apertures can be formed during manufacturing for luminaries and other M&E services. design aesthetics Size and Shape when specifying and considering the needs of your design, SAS International can support your vision through the engineering and manufacture of specialist metalwork, in any shape or form, which can integrate with other building elements, accommodate services and access and complement the design of the building. Perforations these can play a key role in providing acoustic comfort. There are many different perforation patterns available, with varying degrees of open area from 1% to 65%, depending upon project requirements. Signage if signage is to be integrated, any load weight must be taken into consideration at the design stage. 15

acoustics The science of acoustics, and its application within buildings, can often be complex and confusing for the non-specialist. A seemingly endless array of different criteria and rating methods can add a new complexity to any project. SAS International is an expert in this field and can support your project, providing guidance and experience to help you specify the most appropriate products for your design and that meet industry and legislative standards. Sound Absorption This is a measure of the ability of a surface to absorb sound, minimising the reflections of sound energy back into a space. This is important because a predominance of acoustically reflective surfaces in an enclosed space, such as a classroom, can lead to an overly reverberant environment, where the sound of a single voice can be less intelligible due to the many reflections of sound from the room surfaces. This guide has been produced to help explain some of the more relevant acoustic terminologies and technical aspects. In particular, the correct product selection and its application within buildings. These reflections occur with a time delay, compared to the sound energy that reaches a listener's ear directly, and can cause the sound to become less clear. The room characteristic that defines this 16

feature is reverberation time technically, this is the length of time (in seconds) that it takes for a sound source to decay by 60 db. Different environments have varying demands in this respect, dependent upon the use of the space, and there are a variety of terms used to describe these characteristics. Two examples are: a radio broadcast studio, where a reverberation time of around 0.2 seconds is required, and the sound can be described as dry or dead ; or, a swimming pool with a reverberation time that could be as long as 3.0 seconds, described as a bright, live or reverberant sound. Sound absorption is defined as a co-efficient, ranging from 0.0 for total reflection to 1.0 for total absorption. The sound absorptive properties of a material are defined in standard BS EN ISO 11654:1997, which gives us three relevant properties: Sound Absorption Coefficient, αs Individual sound absorption figures quoted in third octave frequency bands. Practical Sound Absorption Coefficient, αp Sound absorption figures quoted in single octave frequency bands. Sound Absorption Class 1.0 Class A 0.8 Class B Class C 0.6 α p 0.4 Class D 0.2 Class E Unclassified Frequency Hz absorption. Sound Absorption Class can be roughly equated to the value of αw, however it is more properly assessed by plotting the values of αp against a series of reference curves between 250 Hz to 4000 Hz. Finally, an alternative and more traditional method of defining sound absorption is Noise Reduction Coefficient, NRC, which is an arithmetic average of octave band absorption over a limited frequency range. This is no longer the preferred unit of choice, however, being superseded by αw. acoustics Sound Absorption Rating, αw A single figure rating based upon the values of αp, compared to a reference weighting curve. Of these values, the most convenient term is the single figure Sound Absorption Rating, αw, as this allows a straightforward comparison between two different products. For most environments, specification in terms of the value of αw will be sufficient. The first two parameters are used by acousticians in the detailed modelling of a space to accurately determine its acoustic characteristics. In addition, BS EN ISO 11654:1997 introduces the concept of Sound Absorption Class, with five categories of sound absorption ranging from Class A to Class E, with the former offering the higher level of sound Sound Attenuation Sound attenuation is used to describe the reduction in sound between two spaces separated by a dividing element, with two basic sound transmission paths that will affect the eventual perceived sound level difference. Direct sound transmission is the level of sound passing through the dividing element, and flanking sound transmission is the level of sound passing through surrounding structures. The performance of products that provide ventilation air path attenuation, such as SAS acoustic attenuators (page 40), is measured in accordance with procedures set out in standard BS EN ISO 140, and defined in standard BS EN ISO 717. Performance is assessed in terms of three octave band values and a weighted single figure rating is assessed: D n,e,w. 17

acoustics This useful rating allows ease of comparison by taking into account the free area of the test sample and results in a figure per ventilation unit when multiples of such units are used, an appropriate correction must be made. Relevant Standards There are many different standards that determine acoustic performance in buildings, be they legislative or guidance. The following list describes the most important areas in relation to the acoustic properties of the SAS Architectural Metalwork range. Offices The British Council for Offices provide two relevant documents that include reference to acoustic issues. The Office Fit-Out Guide notes that reverberation in offices, and particularly large function spaces, can be controlled by use of sound absorbent suspended ceilings, whilst the Best Practice in the Specification for Offices provides some objective criteria. In the UK Building Bulletin 93 (BB93): Acoustic Design of Schools published in 2003 by the Department for Education (DfE)ES provides a guide for the acoustic design of schools. Its requirements are mandatory, being referenced under regulation E4 of the Building Regulations Compliance with this regulation must be proved to the Building Control Officer by issue of a comprehensive design report site testing is not required, although recommended. BB93 applies to all primary and secondary schools. It does not apply to nurseries (unless part of a school), sixth form colleges (unless established as a school) or higher education facilities. Table 1.5 of Part 1 schedules reverberation time targets that must be achieved in all school spaces, in the most part represented as limiting maximum values (except for corridors and stairwells where appropriate areas of sound absorption are defined by calculation). However, no guidance is offered on how to apply principles of sound absorption in offices that rely upon exposed soffits for thermal mass, those with no traditional ceiling; in these cases, the use of acoustic baffles, acoustic rafts and acoustic wall panels can all help to reduce space reverberation time. Educational Environments Occupant comfort is an important factor of Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) and sound reduction measures are an increasingly significant consideration. The Green Building Council has examined this in terms of the effect that poor acoustics, lighting and ventilation can have on health and productivity. Worldwide studies have shown that excellent acoustics boost learning potential. Classrooms with poor acoustics can have a detrimental effect on children s learning and development as well as possibly leading to associated voice and throat problems for teachers. SAS International acoustic baffles, rafts and wall panels can all be used as part of the overall interior design strategy in order to meet these targets. 'Design for good speech intelligibly in classrooms and lecture theatres' is recognised as one of the key aspects of BB93, as this is important not only for the obvious issue of pupil comprehension, but also to limit teacher fatigue. To this end, a mix of sound absorbent and reflective surfaces is recommended in order to promote good speech intelligibility. Minimum requirements for sound insulation between classrooms and circulation spaces are also set out and specific advice is provided for any ventilation air path attenuators that are necessary. Hospitals Within healthcare environments occupant comfort is also receiving considerable attention in association with assisting patient recovery times, and in terms of privacy. The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK has provided guidance on these matters through its Health and 18

Technical Memorandum (HTM 08 01) published by NHS Estates. Internationally these standards, and the requirements of individual countries are driving changes and the specification of acoustic solutions within hospitals is growing. HTM sets out acoustic performance requirements to control room acoustics in sensitive spaces and advises that products achieving not less than Sound Absorption Class C should be provided that cover not less than 80% of the floor area. For products that offer greater than Class C performance, it will be possible to provide a reduced area of treatment advice should be sought from an Acoustic Consultant to properly quantify this. Acoustic Baffles Suspended acoustic baffles (page 37) are often used to provide sound absorption in spaces where a traditional suspended ceiling is not appropriate or possible, such as where exposed concrete soffits are required to provide thermal mass or heating and cooling, or where it is necessary to provide high-level sound absorption whilst allowing light to penetrate into the space via rooflights or full glazed roofs. They can also be used as part of an overall scheme of sound absorption to augment the performance offered by a suspended ceiling, where low reverberation times are required. The suspended baffles provide a high degree of performance as they present two sound absorptive faces to the space, although it is important to ensure the relevant test data has been obtained by way of a representative test. The degree of sound absorption provided is then directly related to the area (m²) of baffle face area coverage. Acoustic Lighting Rafts SAS System 600 acoustic lighting rafts (page 33) are designed to be used where it is not possible to utilise a traditional suspended ceiling, particularly where it is necessary to have exposed soffits for thermal mass in naturally ventilated buildings. In these cases, the acoustic rafts can float within a space, so that the soffit is still effectively exposed to the room airflow. The rafts can also be used to mount light fittings or other services, and hide cable runs that might otherwise be visible. Acoustic lighting rafts provide sound absorption in exactly the same way as a suspended ceiling, the only difference being the reduced surface area and the increased sound absorption from reflected sound. The reduced area might then mean that the target reverberation time for a particular space cannot be fully achieved by use of acoustic rafts alone, and additional sound absorption by way of acoustic baffles or acoustic panels might then be necessary. acoustics 19

acoustics Acoustic Wall Panels Acoustic wall panels (page 41) are designed to provide a sound absorptive finish in order to reduce the level of reverberation in a particular space, where the degree of effect is directly related to the surface area of panel offered. Different acoustic backing options are available. Acoustic Attenuators It is often necessary to allow air movement between spaces as part of an overall scheme of natural ventilation in buildings, meaning that open air paths are often needed through partition walls. This introduces a weakness in the overall level of sound insulation between the spaces. SAS acoustic attenuators (page 40) offer a bespoke solution to this problem, by forming a tortuous airpath via internally sound absorptive surface faces. Each attenuator will need to be designed to integrate within the specific design scheme, and will need to achieve the minimum free area specified by the mechanical services consultants. As each solution will be unique, it will be necessary for the projects acoustic consultant to advise upon the exact attenuation requirements, and to decide how the factors that dictate the level of attenuation offered are best addressed in the specific design of the attenuator, i.e. airway width, thickness of insulation, and mean airpath length. By way of example, BB93 requires that ventilation paths between classrooms and circulation spaces need to achieve a minimum performance of D n,e,w 39 db. important, where thicker materials tend to absorb more sound with performance extending further down the frequency range. The size and pattern of perforations within the tile face also contributes to the overall performance of the tile, with an optimum free area range of between 15% to 22% beyond this greater free area does not offer any worthwhile improvement. With regard to the actual perforation pattern, this is not important within rooms of normal proportion, and the sound absorption data for a particular product can be taken as published. For open plan office spaces, the normal room acoustic rules do not strictly apply, and the concept of a reverberant field as occurs in normal rooms is not relevant. It is nevertheless important that the acoustic baffles, rafts or panels, should provide as much sound absorption as possible, with as great a free area as possible. The final reverberation time in a space will depend upon the total sound absorptive surface area (for all surface finishes, not just the acoustic baffles, raft or panels), in relation to the volume of the space. It is self evident that the greater the surface area of the acoustic product, the lower the space reverberation time will be the minimum area required can be assessed by an Acoustic Consultant. Acoustic Practical Advice The main mechanism by which SAS architectural products absorb sound is the passage of sound waves through the perforated face of the baffle, raft or wall panel, which then interacts with the sound absorptive media behind. The higher the inherent sound absorption of this media, the better the level of sound absorption will be. Depth of treatment can also be 20

When specifying Architectural Metalwork, it is necessary to consider integration with different products, services and structural elements of the building, such as walls and columns. Integration plays an important part in any building design. By integrating services and products efficiently with Architectural Metalwork cost and time savings can be made on projects, whilst also providing protection for cables, pipework and other expensive media. Manufacturing and prefabricating off site provides a reduction in on site labour costs, reduced site wastage and improved site safety. See page 23. A number of design options are available to meet any integration requirement. When specifying Architectural Metalwork products it is important to consider integration within the building and of the building services included in the design. These include: Room Comfort Products where there is a requirement for energy efficient products (Chilled Ceilings, Chilled Beams, Integrated Service Modules or Radiant Heating) to be integrated. See page 73 for further details. The integration of air handling can also be achieved with Grilles and Diffusers Architectural Metalwork products can be manufactured with apertures which integrate air diffusion nozzles and grilles to incorporate air handling. Swirl diffusers accommodated with a subtle change of perforation. Perforations allow heating and cooling to be provided to a space via a lowvelocity displacement ventilation system. Linear or curved linear grilles can be manufactured to meet the exact design requirements of a building. Considerations such as these are dealt with at the design stage of the project. See page 57. service integration 21

service integration Swirl diffusers are not an SAS International product, they tend to be manufactured and installed above a suspended ceiling, our work involves changing the perforation pattern to allow the air flow of the diffuser to work. Exposed Services these can be integrated within Architectural Metalwork products, enclosing any unsightly cables, providing protection and helping to deliver a more aesthetically pleasing project whilst also providing accessibility for maintenance. In addition, products such as binnacles can provide public information on external face plates and telephones, as well as housing and protecting M&E services, in public buildings and transport hubs. Access Panels it is important in the design of Architectural Metalwork to ensure access to important services is maintained. Access panels help to improve ease of maintenance and reduce damage levels and again can be planned for and incorporated, in advance, at the design stage. See page 24. Luminaires /Apertures these can be incorporated into Architectural Metalwork products. Their size and shape can be adapted to the requirements of the project. Luminaires can be supported from a ceiling tile, concrete soffit or incorporated within a product. Apertures for Luminaires and other services can be formed at the manufacturing stage and easily fitted on site. Alternatively, Luminaries can be integrated by SAS International in a factory controlled environment during prefabrication. Speakers & CCTV / Projectors other services, such as speakers (PA systems), CCTV cameras and projectors, can also easily be integrated into products. Apertures for detectors and sprinklers are factory formed. Smoke / Fire Detection and Control smoke and fire detection systems need to have clear access and can be integrated into Architectural Metalwork products. Signage if signage is to be integrated any load weight must be taken into consideration at the design stage. Many public facilities integrate signage from the soffit into the design. Impact Resistance depending upon the environment, Architectural Metalwork can incorporate impact resistance into the design of the product. 22

The desire for increased cost efficiencies across the construction sector is a feature of most building projects. This is especially important when projects are complex with specialist Architectural Metalwork products which require a range of M&E services or demand outstanding value within a strict installation programme period. Off site prefabrication can be an ideal solution in providing cost and installation efficiencies across many types of projects. It can assist with consistency of build, quality control, minimisation of risk, improvement of on site safety, reducing delays of other trades coming on site, improving project planning and reducing specialist labour requirements. Our knowledge and expertise allows us to provide accurate planning and factory-tested solutions that help minimise on site installation time and wastage, and reduce labour costs and other delays in the fit-out. Our technical teams work with our clients to ensure that the pre fabricated systems we provide are accurate, fully tested and fit for purpose before they arrive on site, leading to fast and efficient installation and fitting with less on site labour and working at height. SAS International offers added value options by providing an off site prefabrication service which provides numerous benefits: Computer-Aided Design CAD systems are integrated with advanced manufacturing software to produce quality products with little waste. Most processes are fully or semi-automated, with software used to further improve material and production efficiencies. Health & Safety products are manufactured under factorycontrolled conditions that are safer than working conditions on site. This helps limits and lowers the risk of accidents, trips and falls. M&E Services services, such as luminaires and air diffusers, can be factory fitted off site removing the need for cutting and forming on site. Integrating these services in a factory environment ensures accurate fitting reducing on-site build time. Testing & Certification construction products that are manufactured off site under factory-controlled conditions are subject to stringent quality-control regimes as they can be easily tested and certified. This ensures their compliance with tolerances and other performance criteria. Increased Build Certainty / Delivery Times Architectural Metalwork products are built to meet specific project lead times. This off site build route, in factory conditions, helps to increase build certainty and lead to a more accurate on site construction programme. Improved Site Logistics / Build Delays SAS International operates on a just-in-time basis, where product is manufactured and the finished goods despatched to meet the on site construction programme. Where delays to the build occur, deliveries can be rescheduled and products held ready in off site locations. The possibility of accidental damage or theft is also reduced when on site storage is reduced, as are the associated costs of storage. Installation / Wastage Architectural Metalwork products prefabricated off site reduce the amount of on site wastage. For example, the time to install a plasterboard bulkhead on site and the associated wastage from damage or fitting will add cost to a project. Compared with traditional methods and wet trades, delivering a metal bulkhead ready for installation can provide a more cost-effective solution. Removal of waste from a site can be a timely and costly process, prefabrication enables site waste levels to be reduced and waste materials disposed of in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. Research carried out by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) has found that off site construction generates up to 80% less waste than site-based building materials. off-site prefabrication 23

accessibility and maintenance With ever increasing complexity in building design and additional integration of services required within Architectural Metalwork products there is a need to provide for regular maintenance access whilst also avoiding potential damage to products. Metal products are renowned for their durability and ease of maintenance, reducing lifetime costs through their resilience to accidental or malicious damage. Security, service integration and accessibility are important specification criteria for any project and the use of Architectural Metalwork allows designs to be flexible but practical on a day to day basis. The frequency and type of access required is dependent upon the particular product, the environment and the number of services included. In some environments, like schools and airports, public safety and security are major concerns and secure access must be guaranteed. In other environments quick and easy access is required to avoid disruption to occupiers. Maintaining security is a priority. SAS International has developed a variety of solutions to provide access to services whilst allowing for security considerations; for example, by using secure access panels or security clips. Although Architectural Metalwork is manufactured with a durable paint finish, strong chemical detergents should not be used. A mild detergent diluted in warm water, applied with a soft cloth and wiped with a chamois leather or dry soft cloth will maintain the paint finish in a good condition. For more demanding environments a 30 or 40 year paint guarantee is available on our range of products. Before this can be underwritten each batch of finished products are subject to a series of eight tests; including adhesion, gloss level, pressure and impact. SAS International is one of five UK in-house approved applicators of Interpon D architectural powder coatings. This quality assured paint provides a thick layer of durable covering to a metal surface, often specified by architects as a preferred choice. Depending upon requirements, a bespoke design can incorporate a variety of access panels. SAS International can provide a range of solutions that allow simple and safe access for service maintenance. Maintaining Architectural Metalwork Products Products are manufactured from a robust metal and finished with a durable powder coated paint finish. The clean surface is easily maintained and performs well in demanding environments. With Architectural Metalwork products an exceptional year product life can be achieved. The nature and application of Architectural Metalwork means that cleaning will be essential. The frequency of this depends upon the environment, function and application within the building. 24

finish options SAS Architectural Metalwork products are finished with a polyester powder coating. The standard gloss finish to the products meets the tolerance set out in BS EN and in relation to standard EN ISO SAS International s paint line processes have been accredited to ISO 14001, including an environmentally sustainable five stage chrome free pre-treatment process. Our paint finishes are specified in accordance with ISO 9227 to achieve a 1,000 hour salt spray test for aluminium and 500 hours for steel, giving visual performance for a minimum of 30 years in normal interior conditions. For exterior conditions aluminium should always be specified as the raw material. For wet and external areas, such as swimming pools and kitchen, pre-treating and painting of the rear of panel is recommended. SAS Architectural Metalwork products can be supplied in over 200 RAL and non-ral colours and are available in a number of finishes. Colours can reflect corporate brands, define retail environments and aid innovative lighting environments. Galvanised Finish To provide a natural finish, galvanised steel and aluminium can be coated with a clear lacquer to protect products from scratching and other damage. 25

finish options Fine Textured Paint Finish SAS FT is a fine textured paint finish that offers a semi-matt/lowgloss appearance, which is visually very similar to emulsion coated plasterboard, but with the durability and functionality of a metal product. This finish negates the possibility of lighting hotspots (indirect light sources common with up-lighting) and glare occurring. SAS FT is ideal where high levels of natural light are used to create the feeling of open space; particularly popular in today s userfriendly working environments. These conditions increase the chance of uncontrolled light reflection. SAS FT is available on all SAS colours and can be supplied with a 25-year guarantee. Wood Effect Finishes SAS International also offers a range of different wood effect finishes. These offer the aesthetic finish of a natural wood product on a lighter and more durable material. Maintenance costs that are traditionally associated with wood are removed. environments where there is a high chance of graffiti damage occurring, such as in the transport sector or other public spaces. SAS AG paint finish is supplied with a polyurethane finish which is stain resistant; it contains wipe clean properties making removal of graffiti easier. The reinforced and durable polyurethane powder coating is based on a chemically resistant resin system that is specially designed to allow the simple and rapid removal of most forms of graffiti. SAS AG paint finish is designed to offer a high level of scratch and abrasion resistance. It is available in a wide range of colours, in gloss and semi-gloss, and can be specified on all SAS International metalwork products. It allows aerosol paints to be easily removed from surfaces using xylene, acetone or trichloroethylene and is ideal for outdoor and indoor use on Architectural Metalwork solutions. SAS AG can therefore provide a solution for public access buildings and areas, helping to reduce overall maintenance costs and keep surfaces looking new and attractive. Anti-Bacterial Paint Finish SAS AB is an anti-bacterial paint finish that, as part of an existing cleaning procedure, effectively inhibits the growth of bacteria and micro-organisms. With cleaning programmes, particularly in hospitals, being reviewed and continuously developed metal is already proven to be the most effective surface to clean. The active ingredient in SAS AB anti-bacterial coating is a proven anti-microbial agent that is bound into the coating during production. In demanding environments, such as laboratories, clean rooms, hospitals and schools, there is a need to inhibit the risk of contamination that could threaten the building s occupants. Anti-Graffiti Coating The occurrence of graffiti can lead to considerable repair costs being incurred both in the private and public sectors. SAS AG (Anti Graffiti) paint finish can provide the solution. It is ideal for 26
