CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION Creative organization and presentation of a body of digital design work exhibiting a professional attitude; portfolio presentation of examples illustrating knowledge in software including Quark, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator; web and animation software. Presentation will include a resume and a self-promotional piece using software of student choice. This course may be taken two times. Two hours lecture, four hours lab per week. CSU CLASS SCHEDULE COURSE DESCRIPTION Creative organization and presentation of a body of digital design work exhibiting a professional attitude; portfolio presentation of examples illustrating knowledge in software including Quark, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator; web and animation software. CSU COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. display a professional quality portfolio, resume, and self-promotion project for reproduction

2 ART 257 Projects: Advanced Digital Portfolio Page 2 2. demonstrate knowledge of color various software and appropriate applications 3. exhibit a knowledge of presentation and interview procedures leading to employment or review at a four-year institution 4. participate in critical and esthetic analysis of portfolios, resumes, and self-promotion and related interview concerns REQUIRED TEXTS AND MATERIALS Fresh Ideas in Promotion 2, Newberry, 1996 Instructor handouts The reading for this course is: PRIMARILY COLLEGE LEVEL REQUIRED ASSIGNMENTS OUTSIDE OF CLASS Over an 18 week presentation of the course three hours per week are required for each unit of credit. Two hours of independent work done out of class are required for each hour of lecture. Students will be required to complete the following types of assignments outside of the regular class time: Study Answer questions Practice skills Read required materials Solve problems Observe activities related to course content Participate in activities related to course content Organize projects for portfolio review DEGREE APPLICABLE COURSE: 2 hours of independent work done out of class per each hour of lecture or class work, or 3 hours lab, practicum, or the equivalent, per unit. COURSE CONTENT I. Introduction to Course Content, Course Requirements, and Attendance Policies II. Examination of Components of Effective Portfolio

Appropriate Manner of Presentation in an Interview Situation METHODS OF INSTRUCTION Lecture Lecture/Discussion Laboratory Lecture/Laboratory Learning Laboratory Independent Study METHODS OF ASSESSMENT FOR DEGREE APPLICABLE COURSES: Students will be graded, at minimum, in at least one of the following categories. If "essay" is not checked, it must be explained why essays are an inappropriate basis for at least part of the grade in the course. ESSAY OR SUBSTANTIAL WRITING ASSIGNMENT Includes not only "blue book" examinations but any written assignment of sufficient length and complexity to require students to select and organize ideas as well as to explain them. COMPUTATIONAL OR NON-COMPUTATIONAL PROBLEM-SOLVING Critical thinking should be demonstrated by the solution of unfamiliar problems that admits various solutions or various strategies for achieving the solution. SKILL DEMONSTRATION This is a lecture/lab class where students deal with the organization and presentation of a portfolio, which includes examples of their work in designing materials for print and digital media. Students will also complete a resume and selfpromotion piece and participate in mock presentations and interviews. A course grade may not be based solely on attendance. Adopted: March, 1999
