2 5Professional Career-Building Certificate Programs Project Management Certificate The Project Management Certificate Program will provide you with the essential skills you need to succeed at hands-on project management. To earn your certifi cate, you must take fi ve courses in this series - three required courses and two electives. Master s Certificate in Project Management Take your project management certifi cation to a new and higher level and earn your Master s Certificate in Project Management. Once you have completed the Project Management Certificate Program, you are eligible to work on the Master s Certificate. This certificate consists of one required course and two electives. The required course for the Master s Certificate is Mastering Project Management. If you have already taken this course as an elective for your Project Management Certificate, then all you need to do to earn your Master s Certificate in Project Management is complete any three additional electives. Management Skills Certificate Technically skilled individuals do not necessarily have the skill sets and training to be good managers. The reason is simple: technical work is about dealing with things; managing is about dealing with people. In saying this, managing and leading are being included under one umbrella, even though leadership is much more about interacting with people and managing is about budgets, plans, schedules, and so on. But even considering managing to be more things-oriented than leadership, the truth is that many times we put people in managerial jobs and give them no management training. To earn your certifi cate, you must take four courses in this series - two required courses and two electives. Innovation Certificate The NC State Innovation Certificate program has been developed to meet the immediate need of organizations of all kinds to be more innovative. Whether your organization is involved in product development, research, or services such as health care and waste management -- all of us must find better ways to do everything we do! This program offers four three-day seminars on various aspects of innovation. All courses teach methods that can be applied in any environment. To earn your certificate, you must take three required courses and one elective. Entrepreneurship Certificate A large majority of startup businesses fail. There are many reasons, but one of the major ones is that the individuals who start them don t have any training in how to determine the requirements of the market, reach the clients who want what they are offering, and manage the business itself. 5 Case Studies in Project Management Learn from the Experience of Others Design Thinking Approach Problems with a Human-Centered Focus January 25 - March 4 May 16 - June 24 May 16 - June 24 The case study method has long been used in business schools to help students learn better ways of dealing with projects and organizational issues. This course draws on case studies from Harvard Business School to help you stay on top of the latest developments in the field. (All of the case studies were developed during the past two years.) How the Class Works During this six-week class, you are expected to spend about one hour per week online reviewing lesson material and another two hours per week doing outside work, posting to discussion forums, and uploading assignments. During the first five weeks of this program, you will read one or two brief case studies each week, then post responses to questions to the online forum. In the final week of the course, you will be asked to review all of the material you have read and write a summary of the key things you have learned.
