4 Course Rigor What is Course Rigor? -Keep in mind, the Universities want to accept students that have challenged themselves throughout High School! They would rather you take an AP and get a B than take a CP and get an A!

5 GPA/Test Scores GPA What are they looking for? CSU- min. 2.0 UC- min. 3.0 Private- min. varies by institution KEEP IN MIND, THESE ARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Test Scores SAT- aim for 2000 ACT- aim for 30 CSU- Power Score UC- Your best Saturday Private- It depends

6 SAT/ACT Test Dates SAT- Oct. 11 th, Nov. 8 th and Dec.6 th (collegeboard.org) PSAT- Wed Oct. LOHS: $25/ Sat Oct. Public Library: Free 1:00-5:00pm ACT- Oct. 25 th and Dec. 13 th (actstudent.org) THE BIG 5!!! - SJSU, Cal Poly SLO, Cal State Fullerton, SDSU and now CSU Long Beach are impacted in every major.

7 Not as Impacted The small 6 : CSU Bakersfield CSU Channel Islands CSU Dominguez Hills CSU East Bay CSU Maritime Academy CSU Stanislaus These schools are the least impacted schools in the CSU system. You may want to apply to one or more of these schools as a backup. Although they are the least impacted, certain majors could be impacted at these schools.

8 Community Service/Volunteer Work The purpose of Community Service is to provide the student an opportunity to gain experiences that can be useful when writing personal statements for admissions and scholarships GET INVOLVED AND JOIN SERVICE CLUBS!

9 Additional Criteria Extracurricular activities -Sports, community service, and clubs Recommendations from teachers -Ask for a letter from two or three teachers that know you well Essays -A chance for the student to paint a more detailed picture -Write, revise, and get friends/family/teachers to edit them

What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

19 ELM & EPT The CSU requires that each entering undergraduate, take the Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) examination and the CSU English Placement Test (EPT) prior to enrollment. Deadlines vary by campus Check online web portals! A student can test at any CSU, but be aware of the deadline at the school you are applying to.

20 fafsa.gov Financial Aid Opens January 1 st 2015 for priority filing. Priority deadline is March 2 nd 2015 Updates Middle Class Scholarship for families earning up to $150,000, and attending a CSU or UC campus dream.csac.ca.gov For AB540 students

It s a good idea to set up a separate account for these.
