2 1 Intelligent Mobility) is a flexible, European Commission-backed cloud-based solution for public and private sector actors who seek innovative yet costeffective web services to address mobility related needs of their cities. brings together leading experts from across Europe, including state-of-the art technology innovators (Intrasoft, Relational), mobility service and parking providers (PayByPhone, Mobile-for, BePark), transport operators (CEN Group), Living Lab and open innovation practitioners (ENoLL, iminds, ESADE), security and identity experts (EJ Consultants), IT agency for public services (CIRB), PR and marketing experts (Issy Media, 21c) and project managers (IS Practice).

3 2 Intelligent Mobility) will i. provide a pathway for cities and businesses to easily migrate ii. iii. services to the cloud, open these services to innovators for use as the basis for new applications and services and leverage existing CIP Marketplaces for Intelligent City (EPIC & EnoLL) services to promote new services across Europe.

4 3 Intelligent Mobility) is The follow on project from EPIC EU project [3] (2010 Competitiveness and Innovation Programme-CIP). The overall aim of the EPIC project was to develop a flexible, extensible, future-proof cloud computing platform maximising the use of open-standards. The platform would host, manage and deliver a diverse range of smart-city applications to citizens and businesses, deliver smartcity data services to support innovation among SME developers and improve efficiency in city administration.

5 4 Intelligent Mobility) The EPIC marketplace features a secure and sustainable Platform as a Service (PaaS) that enables SMEs from across Europe to sell their web services and applications to Public Authorities. Pilot sites in Barcelona, Spain, Paris, France and Brussels and a proof of concept in Birmingham region (UK) will validate the ECIM solution by i. submitting existing services, ii. engaging citizens and SMEs to co-create new services and iii. implementing new ECIM services in their own areas. Pilots will upload and share new services between themselves to demonstrate the robust, cross border interoperability of the solution.

6 5i Intelligent Mobility) differences are The ECIM platform will follow and level up the EPIC methodologies and practices, but the implementation will be based on open source tools instead of the IBM ones. In EPIC a service provider had to develop an EPIC service, according to IBM s platform standards and deploy it on the EPIC platform. This service in term connected to other services outside of the EPIC platform. In ECIM instead the service provider develops his services according to the guidelines of the ECIM platform and then publishes the service through the ECIM platform. In order to publish a service the service provider will provide information [i.e like method name, method type, parameters, type of parameters and web service endpoint (URL)], through a platform web interface. Service providers will have access to documentation guiding them through the process of preparing and submitting their services to the ECIM platform.

7 5ii Intelligent Mobility) differences are In ECIM Service providers have the opportunity to control access over their registered services, that is, to enable or disable developers from using their services. In the EPIC architecture there was no access control for using the services built in the platform. The ECIM Platform provides reporting tools to the service providers to enable them to monitor the usage of their services. The EPIC platform did not include any reporting features for the web services usage..

8 5iii Intelligent Mobility) differences are The ECIM Marketplace is populated by the information provided by the service providers and this way it provides a more readable and intuitive interface for developers to discover, evaluate and subscribe to services offered. In EPIC service catalogue only contained technical information, whereas the ECIM Marketplace contains both very specific technical information and more user-friendly information for non-technical users. The ECIM platform also incorporates community features allowing the platform users to exchange opinions, rate the services etc The EPIC platform did not include any reporting features for the web services usage.

The service provider registers to the ECIM platform The service provider fills in the necessary data about his web services through a user interface provided by the platform These data are stored in the platform. The Marketplace is populated by the service data provided. A registered developer accesses the Marketplace, searches for services required by the application he is developing and views details based on the information provided by the service providers

The service provider then provides access to the services for the developer through the platform. The developer is ready to develop an application that consumes the services he has subscribed to from the ECIM platform

11 7i Intelligent Mobility) value for different audiences For service providers, a distribution channel that enables to connect with new markets and customers and thus generate new revenues. For the service consumers, particularly smaller or new actors such as developers, start-ups and SMEs, ECIM can function as a business booster. For companies, businesses, cities, events and other service consumers ECIM makes their life easier: Technically, the common APIs (i.e. standardisation) make mobility data and services available, to which they would otherwise not have access easily. Second, because the integration of services with different technical specs from multiple providers is difficult and requires development effort. Also contractually, ECIM brings major benefits, as it facilitates the interactions without the necessity of multiple bilateral agreements and deals.

12 7ii Intelligent Mobility) value for different audiences Payment schemes, as ECIM combines the transactions of multiple service providers, it has more bargaining power and volume thresholds set by payment providers can be reached easier, thus offering better conditions directly to smaller companies and developers. Cities would benefit as ECIM establishes an ecosystem for diverse actors to interact and potentially to innovate, through ECIM independent open platform environment in contrast to proprietary platforms and standards. Clients of multi-modal mobility services, ECIM also offers the possibility to create Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solution with parking, other mobility services and payment services integrated in one app. Re-use, scalability and extension to new locations through white labeling is an important value factor. Advertisers, through the provision of improved, better targeted locationbased, contextual advertising.
