3 PAY.ON FACILITATES GLOBAL EXPANSION FOR A LEADING DIGITAL WALLET PROVIDER 3 THE CLIENT: A DIGITAL WALLET PROVIDER #1 CASE A digital wallet provider with significant local market share had plans to expand globally. Possessing a loyal domestic customer base and a state-of-the-art user interface, and driven by consumer and merchant demand, the provider was looking for business opportunities in new markets and new industries. #2 CHALLENGE One of the key competencies of a digital wallet provider is to know their customers and to have insight and expertise regarding consumer behavior and expectations. What are the shoppers preferences, habits and shopping patterns? The next step is product development, which can be a time and cost-intensive process. Additional services and processes may also need to be implemented, such as reliable risk management procedures. SIGNIFICANT LOCAL MARKET SHARE AND A DESIRE TO EXPAND GLOBALLY Accounting for local payment methods is also a key challenge to be addressed when expanding into new markets, as providing preferred payment methods during checkout is a crucial factor in ensuring high conversion rates. This means that the wallet provider has to offer appropriate local payment methods for each country and integrate these into their platform. However integration of these different payment methods can be time-intensive and also incur high development costs. THE DIGITAL WALLET PROVIDER MUST ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING CHALLENGES WHEN ENTERING NEW MARKETS: Know your customers and gain knowledge about local consumer behaviour Accounting for the diversity of locally-preferred alternative payment methods in Europe. Make the brand known in the new markets Localization: domestic payment methods and schemes need to be offered Speed: market entry needs to be quick to minimize costs Develop connections to domestic payment providers, accounting for diverse technologies, interfaces, and workflows OFFERING APPROPRIATE LOCAL PAYMENT METHODS FOR EACH COUNTRY AND INTEGRATING THESE INTO A PAYMENT PLATFORM IS A KEY CHALLENGE WHEN EXPANDING INTO NEW MARKETS.
4 PAY.ON FACILITATES GLOBAL EXPANSION FOR A LEADING DIGITAL WALLET PROVIDER 4 #3 SOLUTION In 2008 PAY.ON was approached by a leading digital wallet provider who asked for assistance in entering several new markets, which required the integration of several new local payment providers. Additionally, the provider sought assistance with integrating into a banking system, which they had been struggling with for over a year due to the bank s special requirements and additional layers of technical communication. PAY.ON, with considerable experience and expertise in integrating banks, processors and PSPs, was able to offer an ideal solution. The digital wallet provider integrated PAY.ON s Gateway Expansion, allowing them to conquer the complexity of the particular banking integration as well as offering the payment methods necessary for their expansion into new markets. RESULTS 2 MONTHS FIRST TRANSACTIONS PROCESSED 90 MARKETS REACHED GLOBALLY CONNECTIONS TO PAYMENT PROVIDERS WORLDWIDE EASY EASY INTEGRATION OF NEW PSPS #4 RESULTS The connection to the banking system, from initial evaluation of the API specification until the first live transaction, was achieved in less than two months. Successfully establishing this connection proved PAY.ON to be a fast, reliable and competent partner. The digital wallet provider could finally offer the longadvertised payment method to shoppers, as well as increasing brand presence in additional markets. Connecting to PAY.ON s payment gateway also presented the wallet provider with new opportunities. Integration with PAY.ON connected them to more than 200 payment providers worldwide, through one single API with unified workflows. A further benefit to the digital wallet provider was that any new payment service provider integrated with PAY.ON at a later date would automatically be available via the same technical integration. The provider took advantage of these opportunities and entered multiple new markets including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, USA, Canada and Eastern Europe. With PAY.ON, they were able to immediately offer shoppers their preferred domestic payment methods like Boleto Bancario, Oxxo, Pago Fácil, Przelewy24 and Yandex, as well as local card schemes including Dankort and ELO. A single integration with PAY.ON allowed the digital wallet provider to extend its global reach, and it is presently available in almost 90 markets.
