Course Description Learn the skills to prevent medical problems, reduce suffering and save lives in non-traditional medical settings Earn your Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification Learn the latest practical hands-on wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment and evacuation protocols Practice your skills in live scenarios with our expert instructors Obtain up to 20.5 hours of category 1 CME* Receive Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship credits Learn survival skills in the supplementary skills lectures COURSE OBJECTIVES To provide a practical foundation in Wilderness Medicine for medical professionals To teach patient assessment and treatment guidelines for life support until definitive care or evacuation is available To train the provider in methods for managing medical and traumatic emergencies and urgencies in the wilderness when evacuation is unavailable or unnecessary. To teach techniques and guidelines for evacuation. 5 Transportation The American Mountaineering Center is located at th Street in downtown Golden, CO, at the foothills of the rocky mountains and just 40 minutes from Denver International Airport, 15 minutes from downtown Denver, 20 minutes from Boulder and an easy walk to/from downtown, hotels, shopping and restaurants. From Denver International Airport: Head South and take ramp onto Peña Boulevard and merge onto I-70W. Take exit 265 to merge onto CO-58W toward Golden/Central City. Take the Washington Ave exit into Golden. Turn left onto Washington Ave and proceed 0.3 miles before taking a left onto 10 th St. and reaching the American Mountaineering Center which will be on your left. From Denver: Follow 6 th Ave and US-6W/6 th Ave for about 14 miles. Turn right onto CO-58E (signs for Colorado 58) and take the Washington Ave exit. Turn right on Washington Ave and follow for 0.3 miles. Turn left onto 10 th St and the American Mountaineering Center will be on your left Clothing and Other Equipment The average October temperatures in Golden, CO can range from a low of 36ºF to a high of 67ºF with a possibility of snow. Practical portions of the course will be held outdoors so participants should dress accordingly, bringing layers for potential warm, cool or precipitous weather. Hats and sunscreen are also recommended for sun protection..all equipment and supplies for the hands-on teaching sessions will be provided.
