DEEP WATER HORIZON SITUATION UPDATE 27 MAY 2010 JTF-FL Commander: BG James D. Tyre J3: COL William Beiswenger
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE MAJ Theo Polet J2
DEEP WATER HORIZON J2 - Situation Update 55 miles 290 miles St. Pete Onshore projection Last 24 hrs: Threat to NW FL no change. Threat to St. Pete sector no change. Threat to Keys sector no change. Threat to Miami sector no change. 175 miles St. Pete Weather conditions remain favorable to keep oil plume away from the FL coast for the next 72 hrs AS OF RMAY10 Offshore projection Forecasts as of 25 May 10 Estimates for 1200 CDT 26 May 10
DEEP WATER HORIZON J2 - Situation Update 75 miles 305 miles St. Pete Onshore projection Last 24 hrs: Threat to NW FL no change. Threat to St. Pete sector no change. Threat to Keys sector no change. Threat to Miami sector no change. 160 miles St. Pete Weather conditions remain favorable to keep oil plume away from the FL coast for the next 72 hrs AS OF RMAY10 Offshore projection Forecasts as of 26 May 10 Estimates for 1200 CDT 27 May 10
DEEP WATER HORIZON J2 - Situation Update 1 NE sheen projected to break up Onshore projection Oil interaction with Tortugas Eddy 24 HOUR FORECAST 1. Sheen break up allows for greater natural dispersion. 2. Loop Current disruption continues to carry bulk of offshore oil to N / NW. Offshore projection Forecast as of 26 May 10 Estimates for 1200 CDT 28 May 10
Trajectories of observed oil suggest some sheens will continue to be caught up in the counterclockwise eddy. DEEP WATER HORIZON J2 - Situation Update A smaller portion may move into the Loop Current and persist as widely scattered tarballs. Offshore projection Forecast as of 26 May 10 Estimate for 1200 CDT 29 May 10
LOOP CURRENT DEEP WATER HORIZON J2 - Situation Update Modeling continues to project a shift in the Loop Current that could significantly reduce the amount of oil forecasted to reach Florida. It is less likely oil presently in Loop Current will make it to the FL west coast unless a strong tropical weather system emerges in the Gulf pushing surface oil east. Keys could still experience tar balls in the next 7 10 days. Graphic as of 25 May 2010 For Visual Reference Only
SIMOPs Conditions remain favorable for SIMOPS next 72 hours. Top Kill procedure to ongoing today. Results of effectiveness will likely be available this afternoon. Riser Insertion Tube Tool (RITT) removed to make room for Top Kill procedure. Other SIMOP activity will continue as weather conditions permit. RITT, Top Hat remain available for reuse. AS OF RMAY10 DEEP WATER HORIZON J2 - Situation Update As of RMay10, Open Sources are reporting that Flow Rate Technical Group (FRTG) has estimated the oil flow rate at leak site is 12,000 to 19,000 barrels a day. gulf.oil.spill/index.html
