5 Case example: 3D imaging for measuring geometrical characteristics of reinforcing bar SME: Pintos Oy Machine vision system designed at SAMK 1. Several enterprises needed knowledge concerning 3D imaging technologies in quality control 2. Machine vision experts developed illustrative demonstrations 3. One enterprise hoped to have a more specific example of using 3D imaging in quality control of reinforcing bar and in speeding up the measurement process 4. More studying and testing none of the known 3D imaging techniques were usable 5. A design science research process aiming to an innovative 3D imaging system for measuring geometrical characteristics of re-bars 6. The system is now in use and will be developed further based on user experiences (Valo et al ) Silhouette image of the re-bar 3D model of the re-bar made with the imaging technique designed at SAMK
