2 2( 10) General The Student Union of Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMKO) is a statutory, public, trusteeship and service organisation. The Student Union s tasks are to supervise the best interest of the students of Häme University of Applied Sciences (later Häme UAS), to elect the student representatives to the governing bodies stated in the Finnish Polytechnics Act, to take part in the activities of Häme University of Applied Sciences, to act as a link between its members and to promote their societal, social and intellectual endeavours related to studying as well as to the student s status. All degree-seeking students of Häme University of Applied Sciences who have carried out the membership requirements have the right to become a member of the Student Union. The Student Union functions in all of the Häme University of Applied Sciences posts in Forssa, Hattula, Hyvinkää, Hämeenlinna, Riihimäki, Tammela and Valkeakoski. This strategy describes the long-term plans. The mission describes the operational idea of the Student Union, what kind of activity there should be. The vision describes where the Student Union is aiming at with its activities and what is the desired state. The values are the guiding principles of the actions and they should reflect on the Student Union s everyday actions. The strategy of the Student Union is valid from the year 2013 to the year If necessary, the strategy is examined during the year Present state The Student Union is an active and developing trusteeship organisation that follows the duties stated to it in the law. The Student Union sees to the well-being and the supervision of interests of the students in all Häme University of Applied Sciences and makes sure that the voice of the students is heard in the UAS and in different work and development groups of the UAS. The Student Union operates from a student point of view near the students by organizing services and by maintaining and developing the student culture. The Student Union works in good cooperation with Häme University of Applied Sciences. There is cooperation both with the student unions of FUAS universities of applied sciences and with other student unions in Finland. Mission
3 3( 10) The Student Union sees to the best interest of all students of Häme University of Applied Sciences and acts as the voice of the students in the UAS and in the surrounding society. The services of the Student Union support the students leisure time and studying.
4 4( 10) Values Student-oriented The actions of the Student Union are based on the needs of the students and students are the ones managing the activities. Equality The Student Union supervises the best interest of all Häme University of Applied Sciences students regardless of their training program, study place or nationality. Communality The Student Union promotes the sense of solidarity among students. The students experience that they are part of the UAS community and actively take part in its activities and development. Openness The actions of the Student Union are efficiently and extensively informed about both to students and to the interest groups. Perseverance The actions of the Student Union are made through long-term planning so that the actions are trustworthy and believable. Up-to-date The Student Union responds quickly and anticipatorily to the changes happening in the society. Vision The Student Union is a strong and influential community that is for every student.
5 5( 10) Strategic aims Voice of the students Students know their rights as a student and as a developer of the UAS community. It is ensured that the information about rights and responsibilities of the students in universities of applied sciences is easily accessible and it is told to the students already in the beginning of studies. The practices of the student feedback system are compiled as an educational material for the students. The student feedback system is standardized on every campus and students are informed about its structure and function. Increase the students knowledge on influencing in the municipality through themed events and drives. The actions of the Student Union are visible and recognizable on every campus. For the students, the Student Union is a natural way to influence. The students are efficiently and regularly informed about the activities of the Student Union and this is enabled by introducing the new informational and communicational channels. In addition, regular visits are made to the campuses in forms of different drives and information events. More resources are added to trusteeship and to membership services. It is ensured that the information about the student representation in the school s influential bodies is available to every student. The Student Union is a natural part of the development work and decision-making of Häme University of Applied Sciences. The personnel recognizes and acknowledges the importance and existence of the Student Union. Discussions with the school management are made openly and actively. The present state and need for the student representation in the university of applied sciences is solved and a system for student representation is created. The personnel s knowledge about the actions and role of the Student Union in the UAS is increased through training and increased informing of the personnel.
6 6( 10) The student representation in the work groups and governing bodies of the university of applied sciences is persevering and appropriate. The structure of the UAS work groups is mapped and the necessity of student representation in the work groups is solved. The documentation of working of the work groups and orientation of the new representatives is further developed. The resources are focused on the important and relevant work groups. Cooperation with the student unions is efficient and influential both on the regional and on the national level. The forms of cooperation are further developed. The operational models between the student unions of FUAS are unified. The Student Union is a known influencer in every municipality Häme University of Applied Sciences functions in. Cooperation with the municipalities decision-makers is increased and there are regular meetings held with them. The operating parties are familiarized with how to influence in the municipality. Visibility in the local media is increased. Relations with the area s political forces are created.
7 7( 10) Community of the students Every student feels they are an important part of the community. Students are grouped through tutoring, sports and events. The students are made aware of their role as part of the UAS. The leisure time cooperation between the personnel and the students is reinforced. The confidential posts of the Student Union are a visible and wanted way of influencing. The people in a position of trust are committed and work productively. The students are made more aware of the tasks of the Board and the Council of representatives. The activities of the Board are visible. The Council of representatives consists of the groups of representatives. The actions of the Chairmen of the Council of representatives are significant. The students are offered sports and hobby activities even-handedly on different campuses. The hiring of a sports coordinator is enabled with the support of the UAS. It is ensured that there is an extensive sports calendar of good quality on every campus. Cooperation with the local sports operators and with Finnish Student Sports Federation is increased. The management of the UAS is inflected so that every campus has sufficient facilities for exercising. Cooperation with the partner associations is efficient and locally influential. The partner associations are an important part of the community. The forms of cooperation are further developed. The operations models are unified.
8 8( 10) Interaction is increased. The orientating personnel and the tutors form a functioning orientation entity throughout the study path. Tutoring is developed to be an even more visible part of the study path. The student counsellors and tutors cooperation is further developed. The functionality is further promoted by increasing the sense of community among tutors and by encouraging tutors to mutual interaction over the post boundaries. Events for students are in demand and interesting. When organizing the events, both different target groups and the positive visibility in the cityscape are taken into account. New cooperation partners are actively sought. The event structure is developed open-mindedly. An open cooperation with the authorities is carried out.
9 9( 10) Organisation of the students The functioning of the Student Union is skilful and persevering. A quality assurance system is established for the Student Union. Lasting conventions are established for orientating and for passing on information. The training events and seminars organized by SAMOK and other quarters are actively participated in. The Student Union is a wanted and comfortable work environment. The training of personnel is supported. The personnel have the possibility to influence on their work and the target-orientation of work is further developed. The work welfare and sense of community is promoted, for example through WHP activities and through occupational health care services. The distribution of work between employees and persons in a position of trust is clear and functional. The finances of the Student Union are perseveringly planned and cover the whole strategy term of the Student Union. A long-term finance plan is established for the Student Union and its realization is annually followed. 40% of the financing of activities is comprised of the membership fees and 20% is comprised of the earnings received from outside the UAS. The amount of members of the Student Union is increased to cover over 50% of all students. The service activities of the Student Union are developed to be based even more on earnings by among other things increasing the amount of events and the coverage
10 10( 10) claims of the events. In addition, the Student Union produces also other profitable services. The Student Union s investment activities are further developed. The Student Union is a partner or an owner in a company that supports the activities. The Student Union has many years activity developing projects and undertakings which are funded mainly by the outside undertaking money. The basic activities of the Student Union are funded by the financing, membership fees and service profits given by the UAS. For undertakings and projects, the funding is applied from the outside. New channels are sought for funding the undertakings. The possibilities for realizing projects together with Student Unions are looked into.
