2 Smartphones and wearables Changing requirements for passenger information and ticketing In the future, passengers will want to spend less time looking up information and instead expect information about their journey to be actively sent to them. The widespread use of smartphones and wearables, such as the Apple Watch, creates a host of new opportunities for transport companies to actively communicate with their customers and provide them with tailored information on their journeys. In this context, wearables are primarily not so much an additional mobile device to display information and tickets, but rather a great new way for passengers to easily and quickly interact with information and ticketing systems without having to pull out their smartphones. Getting timetable information and buying tickets using voice recognition, automatic display of nearby stops there are many ways for passengers to interact with the system. What is vital, though, is that it is simple to use and that the information is easy to understand. And although it is certainly necessary to have complex systems that guarantee a wide range of possible applications, such complexity should be something that runs in the background. Customers should be able to buy a ticket directly from the information display, from the catalogue menu or simply from their favourites list. These functions can be accessed on a smartphone, but also on the screen of a smart watch, making the entire range of tickets also available to customers on such devices. Together with HaCon, eos.uptrade is showing how passenger information and ticketing can be integrated, even beyond the actual ticket buying process. In the case of timetable deviations, real-time information makes it possible to keep passengers informed using push notifications, which would include, for example, re-routing proposals or, if required, would automatically rebook tickets. We also aim at providing ticket security during the inspection process. Inspecting mobile and online tickets using a barcode or visual inspection can often take quite a long time. In order to optimise this process, eos.uptrade develops innovative concepts based on ibeacon technology and dynamic barcodes, making traditional ticket inspection much easier and less timeconsuming. With smartphone-based vehicle interaction towards accessibility and CheckIn-BeOut Ticketing As an alternative to structural building measures, there are cost efficient systems improving accessibility and inclusion in public transport to support compliance with new accessibility regulations. The ivanto solution from GeoMobile GmbH, Dortmund, Germany, makes public transport accessible in two ways. The system enables even blind passengers to use public transport without the help of others. And it enables the world s first Smartphone-based BeIn-BeOut system. ivanto turns vehicles and station buildings into smart objects that are accessible for human interaction. The communication and control unit as provided by the system is connected to the computers on board buses and trams. The unit decodes IBIS protocol messages and broadcasts them via

The solution offered accompanies the passenger on the whole journey even during changeovers at stations and in public buildings. ivanto guides the blind user on his way to the pole. There, she/he is able to determine which number of line is approaching and is able to interact with the vehicle (stop and service request, BeIn-BeOut-Ticketing) and, when leaving the public transport vehicle, the system guides the user to the address of the destination. In a current customer project at Verkehrsgesellschaft Ruhr Lippe, RLG, in the District of Soest in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, ivanto will enable the world s first Smartphone-based CheckIn-BeOut best-price system in public transport. The transport vehicle itself offers to confirm the actual line number and station in the ivanto app when the passenger boards the bus. No further interaction is necessary when the passenger leaves the vehicle. Ivanto determines the stop. A background system calculates the rate. The mobile app documents the check-in for ticket inspectors. It documents the priced trip for the passenger. Transport ticketing industry s challenges and how to meet them Today, transport systems are migrating towards more advanced security and convergence with adjacent applications and technologies such as open-loop credit/debit payment cards, micropayments, multi-application cards and near field-communication (NFC) mobile phones and devices. These applications typically demand advanced security and open non-discriminatory solutions not provided by most of today s transport schemes. In addition, public transport agencies are coming to realize that proprietary, single-vendor technologies are limiting their flexibility while increasing their risk and costs. At the same time, they want their customers to be able to use their transit tickets seamlessly across different transit systems. The requirements of the drivers as an interface with the passengers were another focal point in the development of FSD6. The 10.4 wide, optional capacitive TFT touch display can be swiveled in all directions and be adjusted optimally according to the needs of drivers. Poorly readable displays and reflections are features of the past. In addition to the innovative look of FSD6, Zelisko has also managed to build a much more compact version than other models and thereby minimizes the limitations of the field of view. The passengers see their needed information on a full-graphics customer display with automatic adaptation to the ambient brightness. The time-tested intelligent mounting plate with integrated handsfree system includes the ELA and the dual-modem and even allows to make calls and data communication (raid call, GPS coordinates) without a ticket-printer. This means a massive increase in flexibility and accessibility when compared to conventional systems from other vendors, both for drivers and for the transport company.
