2 WHAT IS AN AP EXAM? The Advanced Placement Exams are part of the College Board Other tests by College Board SAT PSAT CLEP Located in Princeton, New Jersey

3 HOW ARE EXAMS GRADED? Students earn scores from a 1 to 5 To earn college credit, students must have at least a 3 on the exam (some may required a 4 or 5) AP Readers across the country score the exams

4 AP vs. DMACC Credit College credit is earned in two different ways: AP Testing (AP Macroeconomics, AP US History, AP Microeconomics, AP US Govt., and others can only earn AP credit) DMACC concurrent credit (classes such as AP Stats, AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Lit and Composition and others can earn both DMACC credit and AP credit)

5 WHY TAKE AN AP EXAM? Over 90% of colleges accept AP Credit May earn more credit than what DMACC offers Not all DMACC credit transfers Compare yourself to students across the nation College admission counselors pay attention to rigorous course work Helps to develop study skills now that will help in college Visit the AP website

6 AP RECOGNITION 47 AHS students were named AP Scholars in were AP Scholars 7 AP Scholars with Honor 15 AP Scholars with Distinction 2 National AP Scholars

7 Honors Distinction Diploma Weighted GPA of 3.67 or higher and 12 points based on point system Weighted GPA = or > than points 4 sequential years of math through 2 points Trig/PreCalc, AP Stat, AP Calc AB & BC Completion of 4 years Modern Language Completion of 4 years Science Phys Science, Bio, Chem, Physics, AP Bio & AP Chem, AP Environmental, AP Physics Completion of AP Course and Exams 2 points 2 points 1 point per test

9 Where are the Tests? AP tests are either administered at AHS or DMACC DMACC testing requires the following: You will be bussed to and from the test No one will be allowed to drive to the tests You will need to make sure YOU know WHEN the bus leaves and WHERE the bus leaves from If you do not get on the bus for the test; you will lose the opportunity to test

10 COST of AP Exams Each test is $91 Alternative testing fee is available to those who qualify for free or reduced lunch

11 Taking the AP Exam Now What? Fill out the ONLINE AP Registration Form (new this year) Go to AHS Website Look for AP Test 2015 either on the front page of AHS or select Guidance and it is on the right hand side under announcements Select the link for on-line sign up you will need to use your student google account Return payment & printed registration to the Guidance Office Registrations are due no later then March 5. Once tests are ordered, they can not be sold or exchanged Attend the Pre Registration Session (MANDATORY)

12 PRE-ADMINISTRATION SESSION MANDATORY If you have decided to take an AP EXAM you will: Be notified of the date and time of the preadministration session by letter Attendance is MANDATORY You will not be able to test without attending this session Session will be offered at a variety of times you should be able to find one that fits your schedule

13 IMPORTANT DATES February 20 th Students with disabilities must request accommodations March 5 th AP Exam Registrations are due End of APRIL Mandatory pre-administration session (date to come) May 4 15 th AP Exams July AP Exam results available online students must have an account
